POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Associate Director of Arts and Creative Expressions the Visual Arts Program Manager will ensure program execution aligns with department goals, strategy, budget and expectations. The Visual Arts Manager holds direct supervisory responsibilities for Visual Arts Program staff and independent contractors and translates policies and initiatives into program applications.

The Visual Arts Program Manager develops and administers program and agency goals, REACH objectives, agency best practices, and program efficiencies. The Visual Arts Manager designs and implements innovative engaging hands-on, arts activities and community opportunities for APCH members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Program Management
  • Implement high quality and engaging exposure based lesson plans for different ages (elementary, middle school, teen) and levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced)
  • In charge of developing/planning program work plans, monitoring program progress, and regularly reporting updates on program activities
  • Research and develop class curriculum, collateral, schedules, field trips, guest instructors, class projects and productions, etc. for different age groups at APCH
  • Ensure curriculum is responsive to members interests, rigorous, culturally relevant, and incorporates a variety of instructional techniques and tools (e.g. project-based learning, independent assignments, group projects, field trips, guest speakers, etc.)
  • Provide classroom and project management
  • Facilitate and lead Visual Arts classes
  • Develop and maintain the visual art room schedule of classes
  • Organize and teach youth in a way that produces measurable results
  • Provide clear leadership and management of Visual Arts Program staff and other Program staff, contractors, interns and volunteers in order to plan, facilitate and ensure success of visual art programs.
  • Support the Visual Arts team members in carrying out center philosophy
  • Develop relationships in the neighborhood and arts community to cultivate resources
  • Develop and foster relationships with external organizations and community partners to expand opportunities for members to engage with expanded opportunities for exposure, training, production, performance and career development
  • Collaborate with other program departments (Digital Media, Dance, Theater, Music, Social Enterprise/Entrepreneurship, Nutrition Urban Agriculture) to support multidisciplinary activities
  • Collaborate with the other ACE programs departments on culminating events and special projects
  • Communicate with necessary staff in the education of our members
  • Support the AD on internal projects, culminating events and with outside partners
  • Supervise the Visual Art Program studio during administrative and program hours
  • Adhere to agency behavioral guidelines when responding to members and mentor through actions, dress code and language to encourage participation that promotes non-competitive and non-confrontational engagement
  • Assist with the supervision of members during program hours, special events and field trips
  • Address student behavior appropriately and follow the approach adopted by the agency
  • Work with the APCH programs team to enforce center rules and policies
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for members
  • Process visual arts program employee and independent contractor payment through Procurement Express
  • Maintain accurate inventory of art supplies and materials including submitting orders
  • Curate talent for the annual Gala and culminating events
  • Manage a virtual gallery space and the onsite gallery
  • Manage and balance the Visual Arts Program budget
  • Track attendance using the Apricot database and program participation within the Visual Arts program
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of the Visual Arts Programming Area
  • Other Responsibilities
  • Attend all required meetings (Department meetings, Check-in with Supervisor, etc.) and attend outside meetings and events related to program needs and development
  • Prepare and submit all paperwork in a timely manner (Monthly reports, assessments, etc.)
  • Contribute to ongoing development of program elements and policies
  • Adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards and values at all times
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Education/Training/Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Art or Art Education preferred
  • 4 years experience working with youth in a classroom setting
  • 3 years experience managing other staff
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud


Physical and Mental Demands

  • Able to work in a dynamic and high noise level environment typical of a youth center
  • Walking, standing required on daily basis
  • Sitting and use of hands/vision for computer work for extended periods of time
  • Lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Able to communicate and convey accurate information
  • Type 45WPM
