We work with colleges and universities to design and implement a range of anti-hunger programs, including “The Swipe Drive” which enables students to donate meals to their peers facing food insecurity on campus. Swipe Out Hunger promotes on-campus solutions, policy and advocacy, and student empowerment practices to address college food insecurity. Recognized for its entrepreneurial nature, Swipe Out Hunger has been named an Obama White House Champion For Change and its founder, Rachel Sumekh, has landed a spot on the Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list. From its beginnings as a grassroots movement at UCLA in 2010, Swipe Out Hunger has since served 2.5 million nourishing meals across 41 states and more than 140 campuses.

ROLE DESCRIPTION
Swipe Out Hunger seeks a Development Manager who is responsible for shaping and leading the organization’s fundraising capacity at a critical time of growth. As a grassroots movement with strong institutional support, this position will focus on engaging our core individual donor base, developing our foundational portfolio and broadening prospective donor leads. Working alongside the CEO and the Board of Directors, the Development Manager will continue to strengthen our donor portfolio and implement a strong fundraising pipeline to cultivate and steward donors. The Development Manager will build upon our current fundraising strategies to develop, implement and monitor a comprehensive and actionable multi-year development plan to establish and meet current annual revenue goals ($1.6M in 2021) and prepare for expansion to $2M+ annually.

As a financially healthy organization with a strong reserve fund and integrated development infrastructure, this new team member will help meet our fundraising needs as we scale our work across the country and have an opportunity to support colleges and universities with our anti-hunger programming. As a growing nonprofit, there are many possibilities for advancement as well.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Individual Giving (40%)

  • Manage existing donor database and ensure donors are engaged in a way they feel is meaningful
  • Identify and cultivate individual donor meetings, Zoom calls and networking which will result in the successful solicitation and renewal of gifts that support Swipe Out Hunger
  • Create donor-facing communications and respective calendar to ensure current donors are receiving meaningful and informative updates
  • Take logistical lead on special events related to donor engagement and fundraising

 

Foundations (40%)

  • In coordination with the CEO, manage and carry out foundational fundraising strategy
  • Identify grant opportunities and lead the creation and submission of RFPs and LOIs
  • Manage Swipe Out Hunger’s robust grant tracker and ensure reporting deadlines are met in coordination with the Directorial staff
  • Carry out a robust foundational stewardship schedule to prospective and current foundational funders

 

Board Support (10%)

  • Inform and help facilitate the board’s development committee
  • Identify and support recruitment of prospective board members

 

Additional Duties (10%)

  • Supporting the mission and day-to-day execution of what needs to move the organization forward. As a start-up, the team is “all hands on deck,” doing whatever is necessary to meet the goals. 

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • You have at least 3 years of professional experience, including experience in Fundraising + Development, Project Management; or Sales. 
  • You believe strongly in Swipe Out Hunger’s anti-hunger mission
  • You are a self-starter and will bring team work, creativity, and innovation to this quickly growing organization - no job too big or too small
  • You have outstanding storytelling  skills - you know how to convey a message that helps build relationships with people
  • You have strong interpersonal skills - you know the importance of a well-crafted email and a how to take part in meaningful conversations
  • You have strong project management skills, including familiarity with Monday.com, Good Suite, donor databases and other project management tools.
  • You bring a data-driven and tech-forward approach to your work, are detailed-oriented and organized
  • You are resilient, undeterred by rejection and know how to be solution-oriented in the face of challenges
  • You account for the value of diversity in every aspect of your work and you understand the nuances that shape the nonprofit sector. You want the Swipe Out Hunger to embody a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

 

COMMITMENT, COMPENSATION, & BENEFITS

This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary between $60k-75k commensurate with experience. Swipe Out Hunger provides a supportive benefits package, including 100% coverage for employees.
