Launched in 2007, the Partnership is a nonprofit organization that serves 14,200 students across 19 campuses in Watts, Boyle Heights and South Los Angeles, California. The Partnership is one of the largest, in-district public school transformation organizations in the U.S., and is not a charter organization. Our priorities are supporting great school leadership, developing highly effective teaching, and engaging families and community partners. Over the past decade, our high schools have seen their graduation rate more than double from 36% to 80% and college acceptances have risen by 17 percentage points in the last four years from 32% in 2015 to 49% in 2019. The Director of Arts Education supports all 19 Partnership schools as they integrate the arts and arts instruction into all K-12 classrooms and build a rich arts culture that engages students, parents and the entire school and surrounding community. The Director of Arts Education manages the planning, implementation and operation of the Partnership’s Art Initiative. The Director works with school principals, arts leads, itinerant and credentialed arts teachers, LAUSD arts integration specialists, classroom teachers, community arts partners, LAUSD’s Arts Education Department, as well as members of the Partnership’s home office teams. The Director represents the Partnership with other arts-education related entities to leverage resources and build strong relationships that directly benefit arts equity at Partnership schools.

This position will require being in schools often (approximately 80% of the time) throughout the fall when they reopen, but working remotely otherwise, as the Partnership home office remains closed. As such, this position requires living in the Los Angeles area.
The Director of Arts Education’s key responsibilities include the following areas:
Leading Network Arts Strategy 30%
- Collaborate closely with the Vice President of School Culture to develop strategic goals for the Arts Initiative that are aligned with the academic team’s and the overarching organization’s goals to increase student college entry and success.
- Work to deeply understand the Partnership network, its 19 schools, and their strengths and opportunities for growth and greater sustainability related to arts education (direct arts, arts integration, arts exposure.)
- Leads efforts to build visual and performing arts pipelines from ES through MS and HS. Students experience scaffolded learning in various arts disciplines and have the opportunity to focus and grow in a chosen discipline to prepare for college and/or professional careers.
- Remain current on arts education state and national standards, innovative direct arts and arts integration curriculum (K-12) and research including alignment between the arts and SEL in building culturally responsive classrooms.
- Work with Partnership schools to identify an arts vision and build a strategic arts plan with the insight, preferences, and feedback of participating school principals, arts leads, arts staff, community arts partners and Partnership home office staff.
- Develop and implement an evaluation for the Arts Initiative, including surveying participants; participating principals, arts leads, arts teachers, arts partners, and Partnership staff; and gathering other relevant data points.
Profession Development of Leaders and Teacher Leaders 30%
- Manage the Arts Lead Teacher Leader Program, identifying potential candidates and working with the principals to finalize selections. Build and deliver professional arts leadership trainings, facilitate access to arts resources and be a liaison to community arts partners.
- Plan and implement meetings and convenings that bring together participating principals, arts leads, arts instructors, and community arts partners to build networks of support and collaboration to further arts equity in our schools.
- Support and promote student visual and performing arts presentations at school sites, and showcase student artists/performers at Partnership and community events. Plan and implement the Partnership Student Art Competition.
Partner Organization Management 20%
- Own the role of primary arts education contact to all participating school teams and partner arts organizations. The Director consistently meets with school leaders, arts leads and community arts partners to monitor progress, and problem-solve as needed to maximize the Arts Initiative’s impact.
Advocacy and Systems Change 10%
- Analyze results of the evaluation and make recommendations to Partnership senior staff for an expanded model of the Arts Initiative within the network, and beyond as an advocate and change agent for all students.
- Represent the Partnership and network of schools to external arts partners, LAUSD’s Arts Education Branch, Donors and additional stakeholders; connect our schools to District resources; advocate for increasing arts in District schools connecting lessons learned from within our network.
- Own the ongoing expansion of the Arts Initiative with the network and beyond where possible.
Home Office Teaming 10%
- Participate in home office meetings, learning and various events and activities, including participating on teams beyond the core work of transforming schools that would benefit from the voice of arts programming.

Education and Experience:
- 5 years of professional experience in education, the arts, non-profit management, or related field
- Experience managing one or more programs with a multi-site organization/program
- Classroom teaching or equivalent experience working for a non-profit arts organization preferred
- Experience working with both elementary and secondary schools preferred
- Experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; adaptable when managing multiple, shifting priorities; ease at managing competing demands and determining priorities independently
- Masters degree from an accredited university preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate complex ideas simply and succinctly
- Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong computer and technology skills; proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premier, Acrobat) and Google Drive.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Home Office staff (e.g., Academic, Development, Family and Community Engagement Teams), other experienced professionals, school principals, teachers, non-profit partners, and students
- Ability to attend occasional evening and weekend events in support of the organization’s mission
- California driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, reliable transportation
- Proficient in Spanish preferred
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The Partnership has recently completed a thorough study of market-competitive salaries, and has applied the learning from that study to salary offers for all home office positions. Our goal is to ensure that pay is fair for all staff members, both considering the market and considering pay equity among staff in similar roles in the organization. The Partnership offers a robust benefits package including employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance and a 403(b) retirement program. This is a full time, year-round position.
