Los Angeles Education Partnership (LAEP) is a non-profit organization that advances educational equity. The Controller manages all aspects of financial management for LAEP, including all corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures and all aspects of financial risk management.


  • Management of all accounting operations including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, and revenue recognition.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget, financial forecasts, and report variances.
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements for all programs.
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting.
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance.
  • Support and prepare month-end and year-end close process.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings, staying apprised of existing and new legislation.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls, and work with executive team to guide financial decisions.
  • Manage cash flow.



  • Proven working experience as a non-profit Financial Controller.
  • Advanced degree in accounting preferred.
  • 5+ years of nonprofit accounting and finance experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of non-profit accounting principles and procedures.
  • Experience with preparing financial statements.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills.
  • Cloud based accounting experience required.
  • Grant allocation experience required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Commitment to supporting colleagues and maintaining effective productivity and high morale.



Salary commensurate with experience, including employer paid Medical, Dental, Vision insurance, matching contribution to 403b, PTO, 2-week paid winter break, and FSA.
