Alliance College-Ready Public Schools was founded in 2004 based on the belief that all young people––regardless of ZIP code, income, ability, or background–– are capable of achieving at high levels. Alliance is now one of the largest and most successful public charter school networks in the nation, operating 26 high-performing middle and high schools serving 13,000 scholars in Los Angeles communities that have been systematically oppressed. In our 17th school year, Alliance has a proven record of success: though 93% of incoming sixth graders come to Alliance reading below grade level, 95% of Alliance graduates have been accepted to college—including 73% to a four-year university. ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, Internal Communications, the Manager, Communications plays an important role in writing, operations, and the development of content generation for Alliance’s internal and external communications and marketing efforts. As a member of the Communications Team, the person in this position will write and edit a variety of content, including but not limited to: internal key messages, email communications to staff and families, intranet content, and feature stories highlighting the work and success at Alliance, crisis communications,  as well as talking points and communications from our CEO.  In addition, the Manager, Communications is responsible for updating and maintaining the Alliance intranet and the weekly staff newsletter. The Manager, Communications loves to write and can produce high-quality content quickly, is collaborative, has an eye on equity in all written and verbal communications, and is passionate about educational equity in Los Angeles.

WHAT YOU WILL DO  

Content Creation

  • You are a passionate storyteller who will be the main writer for the Communications team and lead in the development of internal and external emails, letters, and other written communications
  • Create inspiring content tailored to internal and external audiences while ensuring it reflects Alliance’s values of diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Supports in the development of content for Alliance communications across channels which include infographics, videos, PowerPoint presentation, email marketing, etc. aligned to key messages;
  • Collaborate in the creation of content tailored to a variety of media and audiences: families, scholars, educators, and all other staff;
  • Support the integration of a unified brand to ensure Alliance mission is being delivered across multiple platforms to amplify messaging;
  • Interview and develop a network of relationships with stakeholders to create compelling communications content;
  • Maintain Alliance's messaging framework;
  • Reviews and edits social media content, as needed

 

Intranet Site Management & All Staff Communications

  • Collaborate with the Communications team to determine and develop content for the One Alliance intranet site; 
  • Maintain and update the internal site 
  • Compile the weekly, all-staff newsletter and distribute

 

Other

  • Collaborate on writing projects with other members of the Communications Team as well as other team members from across the organization; 
  • Conduct research to identify which strategies are most effective and where we can improve to strategically amplify messaging ; 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE/BE:

  • Exceptional writing and copy-editing skills
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage and multi-task many projects
  • Entrepreneurial spirit able to thrive in a fast-paced and achievement-oriented environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-layered organization and build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including educators, school leaders, other school-based colleagues, and home office staff
  • Commitment to Alliance’s core beliefs and educational philosophy
  • Knowledge of urban school environments and educational policies is a plus
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to contribute to the success of a dynamic team committed to a new future for urban education
  • Working knowledge of Google sites or willingness to learn
  • Spanish fluency is a plus 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications, public relations, writing, or journalism and at least three (3) years of professional content creation experience preferred.
  • A portfolio that features a variety of samples written for different audiences as well as content created in other formats (e.g. social media posts, infographics, etc.)
  • Must be based in the Greater Los Angeles area as travel throughout Los Angeles is required; valid driver’s license and automobile.

 

WORK LOCATION

  • This position is remote and will work virtually in the greater Los Angeles area, with travel to school sites once public health conditions allow. The successful candidate will be given a $400 work from home set-up allowance and receive a monthly stipend of $100.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

In alignment with our commitment to equity for our scholars, Alliance is committed to equity and transparency for our team and offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience and education, as well as an employer-sponsored 403b plan annual contribution equal to 5% of regular earnings, and a comprehensive group health benefits package, including medical, dental and vision. This position is exempt. The compensation range for this position is $67,000 - $93,000. To allow room for growth in compensation, the maximum initial salary placement is 80% of the range.
