Direct Reports: Education Services Team

Under the direction of the Sr Director of Programs, the Associate Program Director - Education Services (AD) is knowledgeable of best practices and innovations in the education field and uses them as a basis for development of their vision for the department. They will enhance the current Education Services department, strengthen academic rigor across all developmental levels and ensure department goals support agency priorities. They will ensure program execution aligns with department goals, strategy, budget and expectations for the Education Services department. The AD holds direct supervisory responsibilities for Education Services staff and contractors, and translates policies and initiatives into program applications.
The AD assists in creating and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to meeting academic needs of all members (elementary through high school). This includes such responsibilities as: leading, directing, advising, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective communication amongst multiple departments; supporting, encouraging, coaching, and evaluating staff; fostering relationships with partner schools; and budget management.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Academic Persistence/Outcomes

  • Create and maintain a positive culture of learning aligned with the agency’s vision and mission
  • Build a shared vision for High School student achievement, which includes high school graduation, college preparation and career readiness
  • Oversee and manage all academic and tutoring programs and classes
  • Develop and Evaluate overall curriculum for Education Services
  • Implement goals and selection of instructional materials
  • Develop, maintain, and use systems which track student academic performance
  • Analyze student data; determine ways to improve instruction, academic performance and student achievement
  • Design and implement programming that understands the academic needs of children in underserved communities and finds creative ways to meet their needs
  • Implement instructional strategies, including supporting the needs of diverse learners, delivery methods, assessment, and staff development techniques for improvement of instruction
  • Research assessment tools and facilitate academic assessments for members appropriate to grade level
  • Promote the use of technology in teaching/learning process


Partnerships & Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Work with Program Leadership team to support overall program initiatives
  • Work with the Teen and Young Adult Services Department to support our IMPACT program and DaVinci RISE High School Partnership who serve our most vulnerable youth
  • Work in partnership with all staff to develop personalized academic plans for individuals in academic crisis
  • Build partnerships with local schools; coordinate services for members and secure all relevant educational materials and agendas
  • Collaborate with departments to coordinate academic support to members who participate in programs outside of Ed Services (i.e. dance company, athletic teams, peer mentoring groups, counseling, BTF, etc.)
  • Work in partnership with counseling to identify ways to support members with Individualized Educational Plans (IEP)
  • Work with volunteerism to develop partnerships with local universities to recruit volunteers
  • Develop educational criteria to assess readiness of all volunteers
  • Engage families and community members as partners and values cultures as a resource



Administration & Other Duties

  • Increase instructor effectiveness by hiring, placing, onboarding, and retaining staff
  • Differentiate professional development opportunities to ensure growth for all Education Services staff
  • Supervise instructors (Curriculum, Content and Lesson planning)
  • Train and supervise Ed Services staff, interns, and volunteers
  • Plan and coordinate various educational ceremonies and enrichment activities (i.e. Academic Achievement Awards, Graduations, Field Trips)
  • Prepare and submit reports and paperwork (Bi-monthly, class reports, etc.)
  • Manage the Education Services budget
  • Attend all meetings (Program Reps, Department, Staff, etc.)
  • Responsible for creating a visually exciting, fun, and clean learning environment (posters, bulletin boards, etc.)
  • Participate in the planning and facilitation of APCH community events (Toy Give Away, Thanksgiving, etc.)
  • Communicate effectively with members and all staff
  • Adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards and values at all times
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education; Current Teaching Credential in California
  • 6 years working in an academic setting
  • 2 years working with at-risk youth


Physical and Mental Demands

  • Able to work in a dynamic and high noise level environment typical of a youth center
  • Walking, standing required on daily basis
  • Sitting and use of hands/vision for computer work for extended periods of time
  • Lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
