ROLE SUMMARY
 Swell Creative Group seeks a strategic leader and professional coach to serve as its People & Culture Officer. Our organization has more than quadrupled in size since its founding in 2015. With this rapid growth comes greater responsibility and opportunity for professional development, operationalized performance management, monitored health of organizational culture, structured company policies and procedures, and dedicated employee relations.  
 

The People & Culture Officer will report directly to the CEO and collaborate closely with members of the Swell Leadership Team, including the COO and Managing Director on a vision and direction for talent acquisition, development, and retention of Swell’s 25+ person team. This critical role will be directly responsible for the strategic and tactical oversight of all aspects of Swell’s talent-related initiatives. We need someone who can solve meaningful problems and values results over effort. 
 

This position represents an exciting opportunity to directly impact the experience of all Swell employees and continue to build a diverse, equitable, and inclusive people-focused culture while maintaining and upholding Swell’s values. In short, we want to ensure that the experience our people have is, well, Swell. 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Build and oversee the performance, growth and impact of employees;
  • Analyze data and industry trends to guide recommendations on updated company policies;
  • Continue to define, measure, and protect the health of Swell’s culture to maintain high morale, as well as aid in talent acquisition and retention. Identify issues that are detrimental to a positive and productive environment;
  • Lead change management efforts as they relate to human capital;
  • Conduct performance observations and provide constructive coaching directly to the CEO and other key talent as an internal consultant to ensure the highest level of performance, while also preparing for succession planning;
  • Responsible for human resources, staffing, employee relations and engagement, DEI, performance management, compliance, benefits (including medical insurance and retirement plans), onboarding/offboarding, compensation, and all other talent-related strategic initiatives.

 

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. An advanced degree in a related field is preferred;
  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience in at least two or more of the following functional areas: recruitment/staffing/talent acquisition, human resources, performance management, employee relations and engagement, DEI and executive leadership;
  • HR Certification (PHR/SPHR) strongly preferred;
  • A track record of developing and implementing innovative and progressive human capital and organizational culture systems;
  • Change management experience;
  • Experience in forging a strong, inclusive organizational culture;
  • Collaborative, reliable, and thoughtful leader unsatisfied with the status quo and comfortable with ambiguity;
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity and discretion;
  • Commitment to own growth and reflection;
  • Clear, professional, and effective communication;
  • A desire to leave your mark, be held accountable, make space for others, stay hungry for more, and commit yourself to the cause.
  • Candid, open, and deliberate leader;
  • A sense of humor and willingness to fail.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
 
This is an exempt, full-time position based in Los Angeles. Due to COVID-19 safety concerns, the position will either onboard virtually or with limited interaction onsite and continue with a hybrid model of remote and on-site work. You will be provided a laptop, but must establish a space with stable internet connectivity from which to work remotely during business hours. While performing regular duties, you will be required to sit, stand, reach, walk, or kneel, and to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
