KOUNKUEY DESIGN INITIATIVE is seeking an Operations Associate to add to our growing team of nearly 20 staff members in Los Angeles, CA. This is a great opportunity for a creative, highly motivated recent graduate or early career professional to work directly with people in under-resourced communities, advance equity and support community-driven development. The position is based in our Los Angeles office, but may potentially involve occasional travel to our projects in the Eastern Coachella Valley or other areas of California.

Job Description:

Kounkuey Design Initiative, an award-winning, non-profit design and community development organization, is looking for a talented individual to provide administrative support for its Los Angeles office. The Operations Associate will work alongside and report to the Executive Director and Director of Finance & Administration. This position supports tasks with deadlines and sometimes requires availability to work outside of standard hours. The ideal candidate will be interested in the design and community development professions, and be seeking an opportunity to learn about all aspects of a non-profit organization.  

Operations & Finance

  • Provide administrative support to the Los Angeles and Eastern Coachella Valley offices such as:
    • Assist with light bookkeeping tasks
    • Procure office supplies
    • Serve as point-of-contact for IT needs for the U.S. & Kenya offices including purchasing/maintaining software subscriptions, software installation, and software troubleshooting
  • Coordinate opportunities for office fun and team building
  • Perform office management duties such as coordinating cleaning duties, checking mailbox, sending mail, organizing and maintaining supplies/materials, coordinating vendors, overseeing printers, preparing board rooms for meetings, and being the first point of contact for visitors

 

HR

  • Coordinate hiring and recruiting processes
  • Assist in helping to onboard new employees with new software and company policies
  • Provide support to the Director of Finance & Administration regarding HR needs

 

Executive Assistant to Executive Director

  • Help manage professional calendar by scheduling meetings
  • Assist with external communications
  • Develop lectures, presentations, and other graphic materials to support the Executive Director
  • Book and manage travel (air, hotel, train, etc.) arrangements
  • Manage weekly timesheet on time-tracking software

 

Communications & Development

  • Assist the Communications & Development Associate with social media, website, and external communications
  • Support maintaining website content 
  • Lead and support external presentation development
  • Maintain photo management software 
  • Support Business Development tasks such as applying for awards, contracts, and grants

 

Project Support

  • Provide administrative, logistical, and related support as needed across teams, such as helping with workshops, data input, research, community outreach, creating documents/materials, printing needs, and purchasing materials

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong commitment to social justice
  • Experience in creating high-quality documentation and materials with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in the planning, design, and/or community development sector
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Dropbox
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to be detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience working in a professional office environment
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Experience meeting deadlines, juggling multiple tasks, and taking initiative to solve problems
  • Driver’s license
  • Fluency in Spanish, verbal and written (preferred)
