Rainbow Labs is a nonprofit with a mission to create a safe and supportive environment where Queer and Gender Non-Conforming Youth (QGNC) can explore pathways to purposeful lives. We’re launching a new kind of youth mentoring program for QGNC youth by QGNC youth. Youth aged 12-18 have access to weekly individual and group mentoring activities. Activities are conducted by youth development professionals and mentors both virtually and in person.

Summary:
Are you interested in gaining professional experience, empowering communities, and making a lasting difference? Join The Rainbow Labs team for a 9-week Summer Internship- AmeriCorps VISTA! In partnership with schools and after school programs cross Los Angeles, Rainbow Labs will offer a free Mentoring program called “One Bold Summer” for LGBTQ+ youth aged 12-18. Marketing and Development Vista service will start June 14 and will run to August 20. VISTA’s will be expected to work 30-35 hours per week and will work from home about 75% of the time. 

Position Description:
The Marketing and Development Associate VISTA will be an essential member of the team for this growing nonprofit organization. The VISTA will support the Development team in continue and expand funding. They will also manage the social media plan. Collaborating closely with Rainbow Labs staff, this person will refine and create new major and individual donor program and research prospective partnerships to support the development and improvement of programs.

Primary Responsibilities:
Marketing

  • VISTA will act as the community outreach specialist via social media to help recruit and engage youth. 
  • VISTA will develop content for various forms of social media to highlight programing.  
  • VISTA will create content on impact for the website, blog and social media and to share with local sponsors and partners. 
  • VISTA will work with the Rainbow Labs team and the VISTA program Coordinator to strategically develop, plan and execute 3 events (beginning, middle and end) 
  • VISTA will collaborate to develop a strategic marketing plan for the 9-week summer and fall programming. 

 

Development

  • VISTA will Engage and communicate with advisory board
  • VISTA will assist with the writing, copy editing and development strategy for fall programming. 
  • Research prospective foundation/corporations and other donors to build a fundraising pipeline. 
  • VISTA will manage major and individual donor program

 

Qualifications:

  • Passionate commitment to Rainbow Labs mission and vision
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • High degree of initiative and spirit of service

 

AmeriCorps VISTA:
The Marketing and Development Associate- VISTA is funded by the Corporations for National and Community Service, Up2Us Sports, and will serve within the AmeriCorps VISTA program. The Up2Us Sports VISTA project builds the capacity of host-site organizations working to end the cycle of poverty through intentional youth sports and education programming. The Up2Us Sports VISTA Summer Associates will be placed at Rainbow Labs to streamline a series of after-school programming (both in person and online) seeking to mentor and support underserved Queer & Gender non-conforming youth ages 13-17.   Each VISTA member makes a 9-week, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. Compensation:

  • In return for their service, Americorps VISTA members receive a modest living allowance of $791 Bi-weekly
  • Health Benefits during service 
  • Non-competitive eligibility for qualified government jobs the first year after completing service.
  • Upon completion of service, choice of Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,342.86 or cash post-service stipend of $311
  • Professional development through weekly trainings, skills learned in service, experience in a nonprofit environment.
  • Reimbursement for cell phone usage
