Description

Alliance College-Ready Public Schools was founded in 2004 based on the belief that all young people––regardless of ZIP code, income, ability, or background–– are capable of achieving at high levels. Alliance is now one of the largest and most successful public charter school networks in the nation, operating 28 high-performing middle and high schools serving 13,000 scholars in Los Angeles communities that have been systemically oppressed. In our 16th school year, Alliance has a proven record of success: though 93% of incoming sixth graders come to Alliance reading below grade level, 95% of Alliance graduates have been accepted to college—including 73% to a four-year university. We strive to truly change the life trajectories of our scholars and communities, with a goal of 75% of Alliance graduates completing a four-year college degree. Now is the time to join our collaborative community to make long-lasting change across Los Angeles.

ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Vice President, Strategic Initiatives & Communication will possess a deep understanding of how to lead strategic planning and complex organization-wide strategic initiatives in a large, multi-dimensional organization. This role requires proven experience designing and implementing a strategic vision rooted in diversity, equity and inclusion, especially within education. The Vice President, Strategic Initiatives & Communications will also lead the communications and marketing vision at Alliance as it communicates with internal and external stakeholders including staff, scholars, families, and the media. This is a highly collaborative role that will interface with internal stakeholders in business operations, finance, talent, schools, and academics, as well as external partners in communications and marketing.

STRATEGIC PLANNING CONTEXT

Alliance developed its current strategic plan in 2015-16. The plan drives the organization’s ultimate aspiration for 75% or more of Alliance scholars to graduate from a four-year college or university. Every three years, we establish multi-year organization-wide priorities to advance the strategic vision. Last year, we paused on the preliminary planning work to set the vision for the next set of 3-year organization-wide priorities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Vice President, Strategic Initiatives & Communication will lead Alliance’s long-term strategic planning process by building the next strategic plan for our organization. This plan must be inclusive of our commitment to becoming an anti-racist organization and hold our scholars, racial equity and justice at the center. The long- term strategic planning work calls for extensive stakeholder engagement and input, a thoughtful communications plan and a strong leader to drive overall implementation.
