Materials & Applications (M&A) is currently seeking a Getty Marrow Public Programs Intern, who will work closely with our Programs Manager, Director, and Program Board to organize, coordinate, execute tasks related to public programming. Currently, M&A is working virtually and remotely, and opportunities to work on-site are pending changes to restrictions and safety precautions. The intern will assist the M&A team in planning and coordinating with participants in our programs, including artists, architects, performers, and outside experts. Current projects include M&A's annual summer outdoor installation, a mutual aid initiative, and the launch of radio programming on 96.7 KGAP FM. The intern will be exposed to the full spectrum of work at Materials & Applications, from operations to development and communications.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and communicate with artist & architect teams, M&A Staff, and Program Board
  • Assist with research, project development, management, and production for all public programming
  • Write and edit program-related materials, including program descriptions for web and print, open calls, and press releases
  • Capture and edit images for archive-purposes, communications, grants, and other M&A media-related purposes
  • Build a familiarity with Squarespace, Canva, Miro, Mailchimp, the Google Suite, Zoom Webinar, Slack, and the Adobe Suite 
  • Experience in structuring and leading collaborative meetings, sustaining long term initiatives, and maintaining momentum across multiple projects


You are someone who:

  • Has interest in contemporary art and architectural practices
  • Is highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and self-starting
  • Enjoys working with architects and artist teams and is willing to expand their understanding of critical practices in architecture
  • Seeks experience in arts administration and non-profit work 
  • Has leadership attributes with an ability to work independently, or with a variety of constituents, including non-profit boards and practicing architects and artists
  • Has strong interpersonal and written communication skills


The Getty Marrow Public Programs Intern will receive a $6000 stipend and will work for 10 weeks June-August 2021, 40 hours a week, typically between 9 am-5 pm but potentially after-hours and over the weekend when online events require. Health insurance, housing, and transportation are not provided.

This internship is supported by the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship Program and is intended for outstanding students who are members of groups underrepresented in careers related to museums and the visual arts including, but not limited to, individuals of African American, Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, or Pacific Islander descent. Current undergraduate students (and individuals who graduated after April 2020) who either reside in or attend school in Los Angeles County are welcome to apply.
