Digital Organizing Strategist

Employment type
Los Angeles

Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt, Staff Position, At-Will

Location: Los Angeles office; open to the possibility of Oakland, Merced, or Fresno

Ideal Start Date: NEW—June 1, 2021

Power California harnesses the energy of young voters of color and their families to create a state that is equitable, inclusive and just for everyone who calls California home. We are a growing, statewide, multiracial civic engagement organization dedicated to building the power of young people at the ballot box so that we can reshape California, our democracy, and the systems and policies that harm our communities. Power California is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) charitable organization with a sibling 501(c)4 organization, PowerCA Action, and locations in Oakland, Fresno, and Los Angeles.

The Digital Organizing Strategist develops and coordinates strategies and campaigns to engage young voters through social media and other digital strategies and to increase the visibility and followings for both Power California and its sibling 501(c)(4) entity, PowerCA Action. Reporting to the Narrative & Policy Director, this position leads and implements digital campaigns to engage online supporters and bring them into action and membership. This includes leading the development of creative social media and digital content that furthers our narrative priorities.

The ideal candidate knows the difference between organizing and mobilization, and that the job is to help people step into leadership and drive change in the issues that affect their lives. You must believe in the leadership of young people of color and see how they are leading and creating change in our communities and throughout the nation; and share the perspective that the way young voters are portrayed in the mainstream media and culture as uninterested and unmotivated is outdated and inaccurate. You are an avid consumer of politics, news, pop culture, and social media trends who sees how they intersect. A sharp thinker and creator who can easily put together a graphic, short video or piece of content that has mass appeal and that can shift the conversation on an issue, you are innovative, creative, and nimble in messaging and in positioning the organization. You must also be someone committed to movement organizing to demand justice, who implements strategic communications plans that are deeply aligned with our two entities' political campaigns to drive large-scale change across California.
