The Archer School for Girls is seeking a full-time Assistant Librarian starting August 2021. Our forward-facing Library program is the hub of our diverse community and dynamic program, empowering students (and their teachers) with digital literacies and access to the highest quality resources, instruction and support.

Archer is an educational community that supports and challenges young women to discover their passions and realize their true potential. Serving 500 girls in grades 6-12, Archer’s joyful and ambitious program is founded on the latest research around how girls learn and thrive. Central to its mission, Archer remains passionately committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive community where all students and adults can thrive personally, professionally, and academically.

Essential Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Planning and Supervision

  • Assisting Head Librarian in executing library services and programs
  • Supervising students 
  • Implementing library policies and procedures
  • Recommending and circulating materials to meet the needs of all community members
  • Supporting information and media literacy curriculum


Library Operations and Outreach

  • Performs circulation desk duties, readers’ advisory, and reference services
  • Teaches or co-teaches digital/information literacy classes 
  • Assists in processing, maintaining, and weeding materials
  • Assists in preparing library reports (software: Follett Destiny)
  • Assists in maintaining library website
  • Assists in communicating special library hours and events with community
  • Maintains a library environment that is attractive, inviting and conducive to learning; monitors and maintains acceptable student behavior
  • Assists in designing, developing, and implementing programs to encourage reading for enjoyment and information
  • Promotes the principles of intellectual freedom by providing services and resources that create and sustain an atmosphere of free inquiry
  • Maintains a current awareness of young adult literacy and services, as well as professional trends, methods, and ethics
  • Assists with archival processing, organization, and management of collection
  • Assists in supervising student and parent volunteers


Experience required

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Related professional experience working in a school, school library, public library, or archival setting 
  • Graduate degree or work towards a Masters in Library/ Information Science preferred
