Peace Over Violence is interested in hiring a skillful writer and analytical thinker to be the Director of Grants and Compliance. This staff will be an exempt position and work as a member of the organization’s leadership and development team under the supervision of Executive Director. The Director of Grants and Compliance is responsible for research, writing, and submitting grant proposals, as well as ensuring integration of awards into the organization and fulfilling pre- and post- award compliance requirements for grants from both private and public funders. The Director of Grants and Compliance is expected to cultivate relationships with foundations and government entities; design program goals, strategies and budgets; write/submit government and foundation grants in conjunction with program needs and staff requirements; and communicate with POV program staff teams to ensure comprehensive understanding of awards and compliance needs of funders.  


  • Compiles and assesses annual funding strategy, including setting goals and identifying potential resources, timeline and organizational needs regarding grants
  • Researches and assesses funding opportunities for the organization
  • Participates as a member of organization’s development team on broader agency fundraising goals, events, and campaigns
  • Engages with funders to build relationships and opportunities for funding



  • Designs, writes, submits grant proposals for both private and government funders
  • Writes, submits, and tracks letters of intent
  • Works with the appropriate staff teams to plan, budget, write and submit proposals
  • Brainstorms and strategizes funding opportunities with program directors and program staff
  • Coordinates with fiscal staff to create budgets for grant submission
  • Designs scope of work, logic models, evaluation strategy or other supporting documents for grants and program
  • Maintains registration and current passwords for administration of, SAM, justgrants, Registry of Charitable Trusts, private funder grant portals, etc.
  • Supervises grant writing consultants, as necessary



  • Maintains records and files of grant application submissions (pre award)
  • Reviews contracts, maintains documentation for all grant awards and contract addendum
  • Maintains a system to track and notify appropriate program directors, managers and fiscal staff of grant awards, timeframes and contract details
  • Orients project directors and team leads post-grant awards to ensure thorough communication of objectives, activities, deliverables of grant awards
  • Provides support to program directors with contract compliance to meet funder requirements, including reporting timelines, tracking of fiscal and program report submissionsWrites, tracks and submits foundation reports
  • Assist Chief Program & Operations Officer with government grant compliance as needed, including tracking report due dates and closing government grants 
  • Participates in agency budgeting process 



  • Ability to think and write strategically about programs and services
  • In-depth understanding of both intervention and prevention methods regarding interpersonal violence issues
  • Able to research foundation and government funding resources
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent writing, research and speaking skills
  • Knowledge of foundation and government funding agencies
  • Knowledge of budgeting procedures and methodology
  • Ability to supervise administrative and fiscal staff and consultants
  • Thorough understanding of the legal, administrative, and operational needs of non-profit organizations 
  • Ability to work on deadline
  • Excellent attention to detail and systems
  • Desire to participate as part of the development team on broader agency strategic vision, programming, and fundraising goals
  • Ability to get along well with a diverse group of people and to feel comfortable working with LA's diverse communities
  • Ability to multitask without loss of focus
  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, social work or related field
  • Three to five years of experience in writing and securing grants 


SALARY RANGE: $70,000 - $85,000
