JVS SoCal is a non-profit, non-sectarian social service agency which, since 1931, has provided employment and career services to a diverse client population of 50,000 annually. JVS SoCal assists individuals in overcoming barriers to employment, defining and achieving their employment goals through career and employment counseling, job search skills instruction, job development, job placement assistance, and vocational assessment and training. JVS SoCal offers more than 40 programs at over 20 locations throughout Southern California.

To assist in addressing the strategic, marketing & communication, programmatic, and philanthropic needs of our dynamic organization, the Project Manager, Strategic Initiatives, working for JVS SoCal Chief Strategy Officer is responsible for planning, overseeing and leading projects from ideation through to completion. This is a strategic implementation role and requires interaction with a range of internal and external stakeholders, most often managing several moving project parts simultaneously.

The Project Manager, Strategic Initiatives may assist with some or all of the following projects and programs: Capacity building for fundraising including Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Processes, Data Governance and Integrity, Technology Implementation, Reporting and Tracking; Distance Learning Implementation and Adoption; JVS SoCal Merger & Acquisition Projects; JVSWorks Projects; Marketing & Communication Initiatives; Services Committee Management; and the Ideation and Implementation of new Career Training Programs.

Responsibilities for Project Manager, Strategic Initiatives

  • Determine and define project scope and objectives
  • Predict resources needed to reach objectives and manage resources in an effective and efficient manner
  • Prepare budget based on scope of work and resource requirements
  • Track project costs in order to meet budget
  • Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan
  • Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress
  • Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables
  • Utilize industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout entire project execution
  • Monitor progress and make adjustments as needed
  • Measure project performance to identify areas for improvement
  • Participate and provide administrative support for meetings and calls
  • Learn the use of Blackbaud/Raiser’s Edge Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools and help maintain database 
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned


Qualifications for Project Manager, Strategic Initiatives

  • Bachelors or Associates Degree and/or certification in project management, data analysis, marketing technology, business, or a related field
  • Minimum 2-3 years of project management and related experience
  • Project Management certification preferred
  • Proven ability to solve problems creatively
  • Strong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices
  • Experience seeing projects through the full life cycle
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and extremely resourceful
  • Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline


Position Requirements: 

Excellent organizational, research, writing and computer skills. Requires strong communication skills, both written and oral, along with interpersonal and customer service skills, and computer software skills for project management, recordkeeping, and customer relationship management. Use of virtual communication tools, e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc. Experience with database management preferred. Must work well within a departmental and team environment, up as well as down the organizational chart.

Physical/Working Conditions:
Must be able to operate standard office equipment and have strong knowledge of Microsoft office products and software, virtually at home or at the office.

Bachelors or Associates Degree and/or certifications in project management, data analysis, marketing technology, business, or a related field.
