Established by a group of students at UCLA in 2010, Swipe Out Hunger is the leading nonprofit ending college student hunger. Based in Los Angeles, our full time team of seven works with students and campus administrators nationwide to implement common-sense solutions to end student hunger within colleges and universities. Additionally, the organization empowers and trains students to be leaders in the movement to end student hunger. Since inception,  Swipe Out Hunger has served two million warm, nourishing meals across 130 campuses and 40 states. 

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Director of Programs will be responsible for the sustainability and growth of Swipe Out Hunger’s programs. The Director of Programs will report to the CEO and will serve as a key leader of the team responsible for program oversight, strategic partners, and program evaluation. They will employ their experience managing several projects and team members as they sustain and grow Swipe Out Hunger’s expanding portfolio of programs. The Director of Programs will serve as the shepherd of Swipe Out Hunger’s anti-hunger work, advising the organization’s leadership on strategic program expansion. They will manage a program team that works on the ground with students, while also influencing the larger vision of our work. The Director of Programs will be joining the team at an exciting moment of growth for the organization.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Programmatic Management, Operations, & Evaluation – 65%
The Director of Programs will drive the organization’s programmatic growth and take it to the next level; create the systems and structures to evaluate ongoing programs, codify impact and uplift the programs team to ensure the greatest impact on the ground, including: 

• Review programmatic processes, assets, and operations; identify opportunities to optimize including the internal management of organizational CRM’s
• Lead strategy for the Swipe Drive program and development of new programs
• Oversee special projects to expand our growth, including our program partnership with Sodexo and CUNY Student Food Navigator program
• Provide guidance and oversight to the Community Engagement Manager and National Programs Coordinator to ensure duties are being carried out effectively 
• Troubleshoot challenges, successfully engage with campus stakeholders, and offer the most strategic guidance, best practices, resources to the network
• Lead annual evaluation of the organization’s Swipe Drive program and develop the framework for evaluation of additional programs 
• Serve as the brain trust for the Programs team, being able to carry out the ability to conceptualize programmatic ideas and successfully execute them 
• Oversee management of special programs such as CUNY Student Food Navigator and Swipe Sessions 

 

External Relations – 35%
The Director of Programs will manage several ongoing partnerships and work with the CEO to identify like-minded organizations and companies to pursue partnership with.

• Collaborate with nonprofits and corporate partners to design and implement programs and campaigns that advance shared goals
• Represent the organization publicly on panels and other higher education basic needs and food insecurity gatherings
• Work closely with the Development and Communications teams to support the organization’s fundraising and storytelling efforts
• Be a key thought partner to teams/projects around operational strategy and systems improvement

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of five years of professional experience
• Strong project management skills
• Passionate about the mission of Swipe Out Hunger
• Takes a technology-informed approach to their work
• Systems-thinker with the ability to work in an agile environment with competing priorities
• Experience in the world of higher education and/or anti-poverty work 
• Experience with data collection and evaluation of programs
• Experience managing high-level relationships/accounts 
• Commitment to learning and designing programs that are steeped in racial justice, equity, and inclusion

COMMITMENT, COMPENSATION, & BENEFITS 
This is a full-time exempt position, with a salary of $58k-$70k commensurate with experience. Swipe Out Hunger provides a best-in-class benefits package, including 100% coverage for employees and optional coverage for spouses and dependents. RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Step 4: Offer extended to candidate. Ideal start date in early April but start date flexible.
