The great minds of tomorrow are in elementary schools everywhere, but science is not. PS Science brings inspiring programs that cultivate a deep understanding of the world and grow students and teachers who are confident and inspired by science.

PS Science is a Los Angeles based non-profit seeking to narrow the skill gap for children in under-resourced communities, improving their odds for future academic and career success by providing weekly, hands-on science education both during and after the traditional school day. Countless elementary school children do not receive formal science instruction which puts them at a disadvantage in STEM courses when they enter middle and high school.  PS Science, through both in-person and online programming, aims to help all elementary schools provide regular weekly science in all their classrooms, and additional, enriching after-school STEM programming. Many elementary schools also struggle to support teachers with science instructional training, curricula and materials. PS Science remedies this by mentoring teachers and providing them with the resources needed to deliver captivating, personally relevant science in their classrooms.

PS Science’s annual revenue is $600,000 - $800,000, with the goal of exceeding $1 million by 2024.  We currently serve over 2800 students and 105 teachers annually.  For more info visit

Position Summary:
PS Science seeks a Marketing and Communications Manager to play a critical role in growing the organization’s impact as a web-based program provider with the goal of attracting program funding to support its reach and impact in local schools and communities.  This individual will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the Marketing & Communications Interns. The Marketing & Communications Manager will be responsible for and implement PS Science’s communications strategy, our Corporate Relations strategy, and digital content creation, as well as manage all aspects of the organization’s Social Media presence.  Ideally, the candidate will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a small, close-knit team, and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and demonstrate a commitment to equitable education access.


General Marketing & Communications

  • Collaborate with Executive Director to develop marketing and communications plans to promote programs, build community and corporate relationships, and public awareness and advocacy efforts.
  • Identify, engage, and grow a base of corporate funders
  • Strive to achieve the goals and objectives of the Marketing & Communications plan
  • Write and edit content for PS Science website and email marketing efforts, including quarterly newsletter
  • Support media and other relevant external partner relationships as needed
  • Work closely with program staff to design and implement communications strategies and effective messaging for organizational and project-specific goals. 


Website Management

  • Maintain and update website, including creating blog posts, updating program descriptions and course offerings, and coordinating with external Google Ad management firm.
  • Ensure that new, accurate and consistent information (articles, links, blogs, etc.) is posted regularly.
  • Generate online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action. Decide where, when and what to disseminate.


Social Media Management

  • Manage all aspects of PS Science’s social media presence (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Patreon)
  • Drive strategy to increase engagement on social media accounts
  • Lead content creation for social media, including written blog content, posts & videos
  • Increase awareness for key programs and events.


Data & Analytics

  • Monitor, report and present on online engagement analytics (web, email, social media, earned media)
  • Leverage key engagement metrics across platforms to optimize content, messaging and distributions



  • Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing  new initiatives 
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills 
  • Flexible and able to manage multiple concurrent projects while also being highly detail-oriented with an attention to quality 
  • Sincere commitment to working collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters 
  • Experience growing social media accounts across multiple platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Youtube, Patreon) in an organizational setting.
  • Experience with Wordpress, MailChimp, SalesForce and Adobe Design Suite
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal skills, with the experience of managing multiple projects at a time 
  • Commitment to serving high-need communities and working within the not-for-profit sector.


Compensation and Benefits:
This is an outstanding opportunity to build a highly effective nonprofit’s Marketing & Communications team.  Salary will be commensurate with experience.  Full benefits include health care, 401K, vacation, and life and short- and long-term disability insurance.
