Venice Arts is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is to ignite, expand, and transform the lives of Los Angeles’ low-income youth through photography and film education, and to use our participatory storytelling practices to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities around the world.
Venice Arts seeks a part-time Teaching Artist-Mentor for our Film and Digital Media Creative Career Pathways Pilot Program (Pilot). During the COVID-19 pandemic, classes are largely expected to be in-person, although remote teaching may also be required. Venice Arts adheres to strict COVID-19 health and safety guidelines.
The Teaching Artist-Mentor works under the direction of the Creative Pathways Manager and is responsive to the Lead Teaching Artist . This position will assist the Lead in facilitating break-out groups in virtual and in-person presentations and trainings; will teach in all in-person training components; and, will act as a secondary creative career mentor to youth. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate is a graduate of a filmmaking program (graduate degree preferred, but not required), with both documentary and narrative filmmaking experience. Candidate demonstrates knowledge of historic and contemporary filmmakers, and is proficient at executing a syllabus with sequenced lessons that build youths’ conceptual knowledge, critical thinking, and creativity, while demonstrating an experiential, and project-based approach to learning. Candidate possesses a high level of technical expertise with digital video cameras, sound, computers using the Apple OS, and Adobe Suite software. Expert in Adobe Premiere Pro required.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Schedule and compensation: This seasonal position is expected to run from late- January 2021 through July 2021. Teaching time will be variable, depending on the phase of the Pilot, with most teaching expected to take place during mid- to late-afternoon hours during Level 1, with some Saturdays during Levels 2, and all Saturdays during Level 3.
The best candidate for this position works well with, and can commit to, such a variable schedule. A calendar of activities will be provided at the interview.
This non-exempt (hourly) and part-time, seasonal position pays $30/hour for teaching time and $20/hour for administrative time (planning, meetings, etc.). Sick time is accrued commensurate with time worked.
