The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County was the first museum in L.A. to open its doors 106 years ago and is poised for an exciting new era as it plans for the future. Having recently completed a new strategic framework, the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County—including NHM at Exposition Park, La Brea Tar Pits and museum in mid-Wilshire, and the William S. Hart Museum in Newhall—is looking forward to new building projects and campaigns, exhibitions, community outreach, and innovative audience engagement. 

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a Teen Internship Coordinator, Mobile Museum for our Education, Exhibition, and Programs department.  The Teen Internship Coordinator, Mobile Museum works closely with the Manager, Mobile Museums and Education Specialist team to develop, support, and facilitate a grant-funded Marine Science Teen Internship program for high school juniors, seniors, and program alumni at the Natural History Museum. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Co-develops program, curriculum, and educational resources 
  • Coordinates intern recruitment and application process
  • Oversees teen program facilitation at Mobile Museum Community Events and/or Virtually through Zoom Webinars and Meetings
  • Serves as a program representative to school administration, teen interns, intern parents and legal guardians, and museum staff 
  • Communicates in English and/or Spanish with teen intern parents and legal guardians


This position has the following requirements:    

  • Background and/or coursework in education, science, or related field; a related bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Experience working with school audiences, preferred experience with high school age students
  • Excellent written and verbal English and Spanish communication skills
  • Experience using virtual learning and communication platforms (i.e. Zoom, Flipgrid, Padlet, etc.)
  • Ability to multitask and handle multiple priorities; creative thinker and problem-solver; flexible, adaptable and reliable

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience and commitment working with a diverse community. Due to the nature of the grant-funded position, the compensation for this position is $20.40 plus excellent benefits. This position will start January 2021 in a part-time capacity and transition into a full-time position effective June. This is a temporary position with an estimated end date: August 2021.
