Description

The Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy & Economics at the University of Southern California is seeking a Digital Communications Specialist to join the Center’s Communication team. This is a full-time, 2-year (renewable) fixed term position.

At the Schaeffer Center, we shape and effectively communicate evidence-based solutions that measurably improve lives and drive innovation in health care. The Schaeffer Center’s External Affairs department strategically engages with public and private sector policy communities to provide them with an evidence-base for policy solutions, and gains further notice of these solution and ideas through active engagement with the media.

The Digital Communications Specialist will translate Center research and findings into engaging content for multiple audiences and platforms. This Specialist will primarily be responsible for the Center’s social media presence and website as well as work on visual media, data visualizations, and infographics. Position requires high degree of organization, ability to successfully manage multiple concurrent priorities, and skill in coordinating work flows and tasks among contributors and staff to progress projects. Candidates should have an understanding of health policy and healthcare research. This position will be an integral part of Center’s Communications team and will collaborate in the development of an overall strategy and editorial calendar, writing/editing press releases and other content, and tracking and analyzing metrics. This full-time position offers growth potential for the ideal candidate.

Job Duties:

  • Leads social media strategy, including developing creative and engaging content across platforms and maintaining Center brand, tone, and professionalism.
  • Coordinates and implements posting schedule across all social media platforms in conjunction with the Center’s editorial calendar.
  • Maintains the Center website, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of postings, and creation of engaging outputs to portray Center research.
  • Drafts summary language for new website content, suggests photos and graphics, and applies website taxonomy.
  • Maintains website taxonomy and recommends search engine optimization practices to optimize website content and reach.
  • Designs data visualizations and other creative research outputs – such as charts, graphs, infographics – for various platforms to further the reach of Center work.
  • Formats and develops additional department outputs, including digital event invitations, white papers, e-newsletters, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Develops and oversees Center style guide for graphic and social outputs.
  • Works with Communications Director to develop relevant metrics and stories of impact that resulted from successfully disseminating Center research.
  • Evaluates the performance of the Center’s website and social media outputs regularly; works with Communications Director to analyze and react to metrics.
  • Evaluates and follows procedures and USC policy in accordance with communications and branding best practices to ensure quality control and efficiency.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

 

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Education: Master's Degree

Minimum Experience: 4 years progressive experience translating healthcare research and health policy into engaging visual content for multiple audiences/platforms and leading social media efforts

Preferred Experience: 6 Years [Combined experience/education as substitute for experience.]

Minimum Fields of Expertise:

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Proficiency in digital graphics, including data visualizations and infographics
  • Proficiency in social media
  • Proficiency in data interpretation and graphic representation
  • Proficiency in written and oral communications
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop
  • Proficiency in WordPress
  • Proficiency in Tableau and/or other interactive data visualization programs
  • Designing Presentations (MS PowerPoint)
  • Understanding of health policy or healthcare research

 

Preferred Expertise:

  • Expertise in digital communications, including graphics, data visualizations, infographics, basic animations
  • Expertise in social media
  • Expertise in translating data into engaging, user-friendly content
  • Experience with health policy or related fields

 

Compensation:

  • Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Position is 100% FTE on a 2-year (renewable) fixed term.
