Call for Teaching Artists

826LA is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.

We are seeking a Teaching Artist to lead our six-week virtual Journalism writing workshop with an emphasis on Social Justice issues.

826LA’s Journalism Workshops Series  - During our six-week program, students learn to brainstorm, research, write, and edit their own news articles culminating in a published digital newspaper.  The student’s accomplishments are celebrated with a release party.

This is a contract position. Teaching Artists will receive a stipend of $250 per session for four workshop sessions. Previous digital newspaper:

Journalism Program Details

  • Total of 6 sessions 
  • Session Dates: October 14, 21, 28, & November 4,
  • Release Party Date: December 2
  • Student Ages 9-13
  • 15 students enrolled in the program


Teaching Artists Program Responsibilities

  • Applicants should be able to break down social justice and anti-racism concepts for students ages 9-13. 
  • Responsible for creating lesson plans and leading four 1 hour and 15-minute sessions.  


Teaching Artist Qualifications

  • Experience with social justice writing who can guide students through critical media literacy, brainstorming, research, and writing critically about social justice issues.
  • Classroom or workshop facilitator experience preferred
  • Experience in Journalism is not necessary however experience in social media writing is preferred.
