Organizational Overview: 
Food Forward fights hunger and prevents food waste by rescuing fresh surplus produce, connecting this abundance with people in need and inspiring others to do the same. Fruits and vegetables are collected in Los Angeles and Ventura counties from backyard fruit trees, public orchards, farmers markets, and the downtown Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Terminal. This recovered produce is provided, free of charge, to low-income populations across virtually all social service sectors: homeless outreach, food banks, domestic violence shelters, transitional youth homes, veteran services, after-school programs, LGBTQ+ teen/adult/senior services, programs serving people with disabilities, college student assistance programs, and many more. Position Overview: 
Food Forward is seeking an organized  and detail oriented WRP Dispatch Coordinator to join our team. The WRP Dispatch Coordinator will report to the WRP Manager  and will be primarily responsible for the logistical coordination of Food Forward’s fleet in the procurement and distribution of fresh produce throughout Southern California and beyond.  The WRP Dispatch Coordinator will achieve this by gaining intimate working knowledge of Food Forward’s various produce donors and recipient agencies, while providing excellent customer service to both through the use of emails, phone and direct person to person communication.  The WRP Dispatch Coordinator will be an excellent team player supporting and working with drivers, warehouse staff as well as other Food Forward employees or stakeholders.  This position will be based out of City of Bell, Food Forward’s Produce Pit Stop, the warehousing space for the Wholesale Recovery Program.
The ideal candidate is passionate about improving food systems and eradicating hunger in a fast-paced environment and is a skilled multi-tasker and communicator. They will need to be able to think critically and demonstrate strong decision-making and time management skills as well as have strong working knowledge of the produce industry and general growing seasons.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating the logistics of donor and receiving agency pick-ups and deliveries
  • Process orders in Food Forward’s Inventory management system, maintaining accurate records
  • Assist FIFO process
  • Daily Physical inventory reconciliation
  • Filing & Uploading paper agency receipts
  • Decipher quality and perishability of 100’s of varieties of produce.
  • Ensure proper food handling and safety protocols are followed by staff members
  • Greet and direct donors and receiving agencies upon arrival at the Pit Stop
  • Assist warehouse staff as needed during busy windows of operation in moving produce in and out of the warehouse or refrigerator and trucks
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:

  • + 3 years with dispatch or similar work experience
  • + 5 years produce industry experience.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment (electric pallet jacks and forklift)
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Computer literate and proficiency
  • Must be willing to work flexible schedule and early hours.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to repeatedly lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend, lift, twist, kneel, crouch, crawl, pull, push, carry, grasp, reach and stoop as needed.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors. 


Hours: Full-time, non-exempt position
Compensation: $16 - $18.25 per hour
