The Marketing Director is a key position at Cause Communications. A seasoned communications and marketing professional with exceptional client/account management and people skills, the Marketing Director is responsible for leading marketing initiatives on behalf of one or more client accounts, as well as Cause’s own marketing activities. This position will also contribute to our field-building work to help other nonprofits build their marketing capacity. The Marketing Director will have a unique opportunity to apply marketing best practices and drive bold new ideas as a senior member of several cross-functional teams.   • Work closely with account team members, other consultants (e.g., media buyer), and the client’s own communications staff to build out strategies and work plans
  • Translate complex concepts and data points into clear and compelling reports/decks and marketing copy
  • Develop and manage robust digital and social marketing campaigns on behalf of purpose-driven clients and their causes; contribute as both a strategist and, as needed, implementer
  • Oversee and/or produce content for a broad range of digital platforms, including social media, web copy, and other marketing materials
  • With support from the Senior Project Manager, develop and manage project timelines and production schedules and ensure that projects are delivered on-time



  • In partnership with the Vice President, expand strategies and tactics for connecting target audiences with our capacity building tools and resources
  • Serve as a marketing subject matter expert and advise on relevant sections of our training program curriculum; periodically serve as a guest speaker for webinars or other trainings
  • In collaboration with the Vice President, contribute to the development of new tools and resources for the field related to nonprofit marketing



  • Lead the organization’s marketing strategy and tactics, in order to ensure Cause outreach efforts are creative (authentic/unique/in our voice), effective (educate/share info/lift up best practices/attract donors and clients), and consistent (brand ambassador role) across all channels, including social media, emails/newsletter, and website
  • Lead or contribute to the preparation and implementation of new business proposals and pitches
  • Oversee a strong collection of case studies and other materials that showcase the organization’s experience and expertise
  • Participate in networking opportunities including trainings, speaking engagements, and industry conferences



  • Mentor and support team members working on marketing projects and contribute to their short- and long-term professional development
  • Stay abreast of industry news and trends
  • Participate in staff recruitment and hiring/vetting processes; train new account staff



  • At least 10 years of experience in marketing communications or related field
  • Three to five years of agency experience supervising projects and teams
  • Experience in the nonprofit or public sector/government strongly preferred
  • Degree in marketing, communications, or related field preferred
  • Strong project management skills required



  • Record of achievement in marketing communications, audience engagement, and creative services
  • Strong EQ; excellent interpersonal skills necessary to build and maintain client relations and direct project members
  • Experience managing and growing social networks; understanding of online community building
  • Expertise/industry knowledge in philanthropy, public policy, and/or social entrepreneurship preferred
  • Impeccable speaking and written communication skills
  • Strong copywriting abilities, especially within digital marketing environments
  • Adept with reporting, evaluation, and translating data into insights
  • Fluency with web and social analytics; solid understanding of SEO and UX best practices
