Urban Voices Project uses music to create supportive community spaces that bridge vulnerable individuals to a self-expression and improved health. Our music workshops engage men, women and families across the greater Los Angeles area in partnership with social, civic and healthcare organizations throughout LA County use music as a bridge to housing, healthcare and social services for our fellow neighbors experiencing or with prior experience of homelessness. Urban Voices Project’s outreach ensemble performances shift the narrative and perception of homelessness in today’s society.

Position Summary: The Marketing Associate will be responsible for developing and maintaining a communications and marketing plan to support and advance Urban Voices Project’s mission. This position will report to and work closely with the Artistic Director on PR, media and social media, and with the Operations Director on mail campaigns, newsletters. Initial 3 Month Contract:
Website - The goal of much of content will be to drive traffic to the website.

  • Run through the copy and update with keywords and hyperlinks for SEO
  • Calendar updated with all events and programs
  • Strengthen your calls to action.
  • Videos
    • Member profiles
    • Performances
    • Neighborhood Sing
    • Community events
    • Short video vignette of each program



  • Facebook, Instagram, YouTube
  • Set up Views in Google Analytics so you can filter and review traffic
  • Design templates that are easily recognizable for promo posts relating to the same content, i.e. performance announcements, new programs, events, and fundraisers. Help your audience know when to pay attention to a particular look because it signals a performance, etc...


Identify messaging

  • Participant outreach
  • Donors
  • Campaigns for your various outreach efforts



Develop YouTube Channel

General Feedback

MOVING FORWARD: If effective systems have been put into place for the above digital strategy and the associate now has the capacity to begin working on communications and PR as defined in the UVP Marketing and Communications Associate Job Description, clear parameters for those expectations will be laid out together at that time.

Public Relations

  • Develop, update and maintain Press Materials Packet
  • Create and distribute press releases
  • Interviews - Soliciting print and radio interviews through press and personal relations
  • Schedule and coordinate interviews with staff/faculty


Event Marketing Coordination


  • Create logistical/creative content for monthly newsletter
  • Maintain email lists, creating categories and filters to identify audiences
  • Sending targeted newsletter prior to a special event or fundraisers


Brand Awareness

  • To be developed together with UVP directors.


You are driven, highly organized, and are comfortable working independently or in a team- based setting. A commitment to social justice, and flexibility to adapt to the change inherent to a rapidly scaling startup are essential. Passion for music is a plus!

  • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in marketing and communications
  • Excellent organizational and critical-thinking skills with superior attention to detail, follow-through and the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting tight deadlines
  • Excellent written communication skills, including a sharp eye for editing and proofreading
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work under deadline while maintaining tact and professionalism
  • Readiness to integrate with our current marketing platforms (Wordpress, Wix and Mailchimp)
  • Proficiency with social media platforms and best practices to reach wide and diverse audiences through digital marketing
  • Familiarity with press outlets and willingness to research similar prospects
  • Ability to work remotely, with occasional office hours in Downtown LA
  • Strong belief and commitment to social justice


Compensation : This is a part-time position of approximately 10 hours per week, to be undertaken remotely and in Downtown Los Angeles. Depending on experience, starting wage will be $18-22/hour. Benefits include working with a passionate and driven team to grow an innovative program that truly makes a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
