REPORTS TO: Senior Access Center Manager
STATUS: Part Time

Safe Place for Youth (SPY) is the leading service provider for youth experiencing or at-risk of homelessness in West Los Angeles. Founded in 2011, our agency offers trauma-informed, low barrier programs that support young people in exiting the streets and achieving stability so that they can thrive, not just survive. Our robust continuum of care includes street outreach, drop-in services, health and wellness programming, case management, education and employment services, and housing programs.

ABOUT THE ROLE
A member of the Access Center team, the Access Center Associate will work at SPY’s Access Center location in Venice to provide services for SPY members experiencing homelessness. The Access Center Associate’s main focus will be on creating and ensuring a pleasant experience for SPY members and Partners in the Drop-in space and supporting clear communication to SPY members about what services are available and how they can be accessed.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of direct service to at-risk populations and trauma-informed care. Specific knowledge or experience related to transitional aged youth experiencing homelessness is a plus.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Ensure that SPY Member needs are being met by ensuring they are having a pleasant experience in the space
  • SPY Member support during drop-in service hours and programming
  • Increase SPY Member knowledge of what services are available and how to access them
  • Greet and build rapport with SPY members, helping connect to services, programs and partners
  • Drop-in room aesthetic including flyer wall, boards, computers, warm and ensuring a welcoming space
  • Front desk support for Case Managers including in-takes and tours
  • Ensure successful data collection, reporting, and attendance
  • Ensure cleanliness of Access Center offices and space
  • Laundry, clothing closet and other services as required
  • Experiential Learning and Outdoor Program Staffing
  • Calendar, scheduling workshops and other admin tasks as assigned

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • A commitment to and passion for the mission, vision, values and culture of SPY
  • 1+ years experience in social services or related field
  • 1+ years experience providing direct services to high-risk youth including counseling and advocacy
  • 1+ years experience in administrative related role
  • Certification or Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience in administration and communications, preferably for a non-profit, encouraged
  • Ability to leverage non-traditional resources for the benefit of the organization
  • Knowledge of social service resources for youth experiencing and at-risk of homelessness
  • A willingness to work collaboratively as part of the SPY team and the ability to work harmoniously as part of a diverse workforce
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A devotion to ensuring SPY’s sites remain clean, beautiful, and a hopeful place for all who enter
  • A self-starter who is prepared to drive innovative solutions for an emerging organization
  • An ability to work in a fast paced environment that requires effective collaboration with a variety of organizations and individuals
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction and housing first models
  • Must possess great communication and organizational skills 

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook), and Google Drive (preferred)
