LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes serves the public by providing educational experiences through public programming and exhibitions that celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Mexicans, Mexican Americans and all Latinos in Southern California. LA Plaza opened to the public in 2011 in two renovated buildings located in the downtown Los Angeles historic core. Established by the County of Los Angeles, LA Plaza operates as a non-profit organization governed by a board of directors and is partially funded through the County’s cultural arts program. LA Plaza seeks a dynamic, accomplished senior curator to provide leadership and vision within its mission. The curator will conceive, implement, and oversee a series of ambitious exhibition programs for the core exhibition and temporary exhibitions, ranging from pre-Columbian to contemporary issues with a focus on untold histories. He/she will create, plan, implement, supervise and evaluate all of the exhibitions and educational programs for the cultural center that may include; exhibitions, programs, and workshops. The position will collaborate closely with local museums, the Smithsonian Institution, academics and community partners in developing relevant exhibitions.
The successful candidate will also develop and administer the department’s budget and project manage grants by creating narrative, budgets, and budget reconciliation, in addition to performing other related duties as assigned by the CEO.
The position serves as part of the organization’s senior team and interacts on a daily basis with all staff members in developing coordinated, comprehensive programming that drives museum attendance. The position supervisors a staff of two curators.
