Only One is seeking an experienced Account Manager to join our team leveraging media, communications, technology and storytelling to solve the most critical issue of our time: the climate crisis.

Overview & Responsibilities

January 1, 2020, began the Decade of the Ocean, a decade in which Only One redefines ocean conservation. Recognizing that it takes “only one” person to make a difference, our team aims to bring together millions around the world, working together as one to achieve a collective goal. We already have a strong foundation, with a combined direct social following of over eight million, indirect engagement across 100 million globally, and an engaged community that has taken over half a million individual advocacy actions in the past 18 months. Only One is positioned to act as a critical collaborator, and leader, within the global conservation space, bridging cultures and building community. 

To accomplish our ambitious plans, we need to expand. Today we’re looking for an experienced Account Manager to join our dynamic and quickly growing team. 

In this role, you will report to our Account Management Lead and collaborate closely across our storytelling, impact campaign and platform verticals. You will be responsible for being a key player in managing the development of programs and engagement opportunities. You will also be responsible for turning ideas and contracted deliverables into action and excellent work product. This is a full-time position based in Los Angeles or New York. 

The right candidate will be the principal manager of accounts determined by the Account Management Lead. Maintain vigilance over the quickly evolving landscape and call changes, in coordination with the Account Lead, as evolutions require to ensure all work stays on strategy and the organization achieves its goals. This role coordinates the work of internal staff and external support to meet all the needs of the account(s).

Example responsibilities will include:

  1. Executing against campaign and initiative plans.
  2. Developing road-maps for emerging accounts.
  3. Managing internal expectations both across verticals and directly to the Account Management Lead in addition to appropriately managing all deliverables as outlined by any given partnership or campaign agreement.
  4. A key area of responsibility for this role is mitigating risk both internally and externally. In this fast-paced environment, accounts can and will evolve due to strategic priorities and funding; often one position may be responsible for multiple accounts.


  • Excellent ability to perform all of the skills required to seamlessly execute against the plan on current campaigns and initiatives; Previous experience in initiative, campaign, and/or project management is required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt to change, perform under pressure, and possess consistent attention to detail. 
  • Strong presence and credibility, and a keen ability to build and maintain relationships with others, including staff and leadership within the organization, partner and peer organizations and entities, and with funders as needed.  
  • Ability to look beyond typical approaches to solving large, complex problems and to consider the big picture, global, and long-term impacts in decision-making. 
  • Possess a passion for the organization’s mission, is energized about creative challenges, and recognizes the need for urgent action. 
  • Ability to think strategically and contextually, and to anticipate the needs and expectations of the Account Management Lead.
  • Strong project management skills including; the ability to manage competing priorities and multiple tasks, exhibits flexibility, always delivers on or before deadlines.
  • Proficient in analyzing and presenting data effectively, capable of thinking analytically and pragmatically, discerning in resource allocation in alignment with strategic goals of the organization. efforts with opportunities.
  • Ability to bring humor, humility, and kindness to the work and can put their own interests aside where needed.   
  • Superb verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Education and Work Experience

This position requires an undergraduate degree or the equivalent in work experience. It is preferred that the candidate’s total work experience is equal to five years in relevant fields such as campaign work and/ or account management. 

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Office Environment: Constant computer work requiring repetitive motion, prolonged sitting and sustained visual/mental demands. Occasional lifting, bending, pulling, collating, and filing, some of which may be heavy (>15 lbs.) and require use of carts. 

  • Travel Environment: Occasional short, medium, and/or long-distance travel (up to 75% of time) which may require walking distances, lifting and carrying luggage and boxes (>25 lbs.) or prolonged periods of sitting in tight quarters.

  • Ability to occasionally work after hours and on weekends, and operate an automobile.
