Alliance College-Ready Public Schools was founded based on the belief that all young people, regardless of zip code, are capable of achieving at high levels. Alliance is now one of the largest and more successful public charter school networks in the nation, operating 25 high-performing middle and high schools serving 13,000 scholars in Los Angeles’ most educationally underserved communities. In our 15th school year, Alliance has a proven record of success: though our scholars come to Alliance on average four grade-levels behind in reading, 95% of Alliance scholars graduate and are accepted to college—including 73% to a four-year university. We strive to truly change the life trajectories of our scholars and communities, with a goal of 75% of Alliance graduates completing a four-year college degree. Reporting to the Director of Advocacy, the Manager, Advocacy & Community Engagement will manage major campaigns and initiatives for Alliance educators, school-based staff and home office staff to learn about and participate in achieving Alliance’s goals to increase educational access, equity and social justice for our scholars and families. In addition, this position will manage diverse strategic initiatives to help build a culture of advocacy & leadership with Alliance families, including through the Parent Ambassadors program, trainings, mobilization & advocacy campaigns. This is an ideal opportunity for a dynamic, experienced, creative, and thoughtful leader who can build strong working relationships with school communities, as well as manage multiple advocacy initiatives and lasting systems to support them.


  • Develop Parent Engagement Specialists across Alliance schools in advocacy and community engagement
  • Manage Alliance Parent Ambassador Program and other parent facing advocacy activities
  • Develop and support implementation of systems and analytics to effectively track parent advocacy across schools
  • Cultivate and build strong relationships with our various influencers and policy makers at the local level
  • Visit local and state elected officials with family leaders to advocate for high quality educational options


Community Engagement

  • Build greater awareness and potential partnerships with external organizations, programs, and initiatives aligned with Alliance’s education priorities
  • Develop a thorough understanding of community dynamics and relationships surrounding our school communities through research and relationship-building
  • Research potential connections between key community leaders and Alliance, coordinating meetings and managing follow-up
  • Identify opportunities to enable our schools to serve as a resource within their broader communities
  • Identify, codify, and share best practices in parent and community engagement work across Alliance schools


Charter School Renewals

  • Mobilize and manage home office and school-based staff to advocate for the charter renewals of Alliance schools
  • Manage letter writing campaigns from internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare parents and staff to speak in front of the Los Angeles Unified School District Board, with elected leaders and the press
  • This is a cross-functional effort requiring direct support to school-based Parent Engagement Specialists and school leaders in developing their mobilization plans, and monitoring and supporting school staff in its implementation


Communication & Collaboration

  • Meet with staff to understand their interests and identify opportunities for school communities to participate in advocacy efforts
  • In coordination with the Director of Advocacy and Communications team, manage communication pieces and training materials, as well as lead trainings as needed
  • Create, maintain and share project plans for areas of responsibility; leverage the shared team Google drive for collaboration with Alliance colleagues and to support organizational and financial systems tracking

  • Strong organizational skills, including ability to manage and multi-task many projects
  • Effective written and oral communications skills
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to contribute to the success of a dynamic team committed to a new future for urban education



  • At least 3 years of professional work experience and a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; OR
    • At least 5 years of professional work experience and a HS Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Fluent bilingual English-Spanish ability is REQUIRED
  • Experience leading advocacy and parent or community engagement efforts preferred
  • Work schedule includes occasional evenings and weekends as needed
  • Travel throughout Los Angeles, valid license and automobile for daily use required


In alignment with our commitment to equity for our scholars, Alliance is committed to equity and transparency for our team and offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience and education, as well as an employer-sponsored 403b plan annual contribution equal to 5% of regular earnings, and a comprehensive group health benefits package, including medical, dental and vision. This position is exempt. The compensation range for this position is $67,000 - $93,000.
