Job Overview / Background
The National Alliance on Mental Illness Los Angeles County Council (NAMI LACC) is an association of the nine Los Angeles County affiliates of NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. NAMI LACC represents over 1,000 members that include persons living with serious mental illness and their families, friends, and supporters, though we reach 20,000 through programming. NAMI LACC advocates to improve systems that help persons find treatment, fight stigma and provide hope for families and persons with a mental illness. As NAMI LACC expands, there is a need for an Assistant to work with the Operations Manager to maintain and grow NAMI LACC’s administrative and accounting capacity.
We are looking for someone who takes initiative; excels working both independently and collaboratively; has strong analytical and problem-solving skills; has excellent written and verbal communication skills; is extremely detail-oriented; and, can successfully manage multiple priorities and projects with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide general office support, such as filing, copying, mailing, answering phone calls, managing internal and external calendars, schedules and databases, and greeting visitors.
  • Assist with payroll entry and HR needs.
  • Prepare financial reports.
  • Process invoices and expense payments and donation receipts.
  • Coordinate office support services including ordering office supplies.
  • Coordinate meetings to include organizing materials and other communication pieces.
  • Manage grant requirements due, ensuring timely submission of reports and drafting grant report documents.
  • Undertake special duties as assigned.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, related subject or 5+ years relevant job experience.
  • Bookkeeping/accounting or payroll/human resources experience.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office and QuickBooks.
  • Proficiency with SurveyMonkey, Salesforce (or other CRM), WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite and various social media is a major plus.
  • Proven track record of success as a high-performing, responsible and self-motivated administrative professional.
  • Experience in nonprofits and database management.
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license; has access to a reliable automobile with proof of insurance and valid registration; and is able to lift 20 lbs.

 

Hours and Pay

  • 20 hours a week to start, flex time, may work some from home at $23 an hour with a monthly $50 phone stipend and a $250 contribution for health needs.
  • Will become a full-time 40 hour per week position within about three months as the organization grows.
