TITLE: Program Coordinator, Food Business Accelerator
STATUS: Full-time/Non-Exempt
COMPENSATION: $18-$20/hour, 35-40 hours/week
REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Farmers’ Market Programs
ORGANIZATION SUMMARY:

Sustainable Economic Enterprises of Los Angeles (SEE-LA) is the largest mission-driven operator of farmers’ markets in Southern California and a leader in improving food access and nutrition education. Our programs include:

  • Six farmers’ markets: Atwater Village, Central Avenue, Crenshaw, Echo Park, Hollywood, MLK Campus.
  • Benefits and Incentives Program that ensures that our markets serve as a venue for WIC and CalFresh redemption, partners with organizations to advocate for food access, and manages Market Match: a system which provides fruit and vegetable vouchers for CalFresh participants.
  • Bring the Farmer to Your School program, in which local California farmers have provided engaging sessions about local agriculture to children at Title I schools for over 15 years.
  • Pompea Smith Good Cooking Buena Cocina Nutrition Education Program, which offers hundreds of nutrition education and cooking demonstrations across South LA each year.

 

PROGRAM SUMMARY:
Supported by federal U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CBDG) and HUD Section 4 Capacity Building for Community Development and Affordable Housing Program funds, the SEE-LA Food Business Accelerator will work with a cohort of food entrepreneurs selected from our network of farmers’ markets and community partners to provide comprehensive services that create and maintain quality food-sector jobs and support food business growth and sustainability. With collaboration from community partners, the program will produce a needs assessment of the over 150 food entrepreneurs in our farmers’ market network with an emphasis on women and entrepreneurs of color. Additionally, direct services include recruitment of program participants, case management, linkage to financing opportunities and subsidized test kitchen space, and the organization of educational webinars and networking events. Program services also include business and marketing support provided by consultants and overseen by the Senior Manager, Farmers’ Market Programs and Program Coordinator.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Farmers’ Market Programs, the Food Business Accelerator Program Coordinator will provide direct case management services for up to 12 food entrepreneurs, coordinate service delivery with our consultants and community partners, and assist with data and document collection for monthly reporting and invoicing. The Coordinator will also provide logistical support to our program partner, the Urban and Environmental Policy Institute at Occidental College (UEPI), with an assessment of our broader food entrepreneur network. Additionally, the Coordinator will assist in coordinating webinars and quarterly networking events aimed at providing information and resources to food entrepreneurs across Los Angeles.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Outreach
Lead marketing, outreach, and communications operations for all aspects of the program.

  • Assist in developing outreach materials with Graphic Designer and Senior Manager, Farmers’ Market Programs for program launch.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to recruit participants and educate our community stakeholders and local food entrepreneurs about the program.
  • Table at our farmers’ markets to recruit cohort and assessment participants.

 

Case Management
Work directly with each entrepreneur in the cohort to facilitate their experience, troubleshoot challenges
connecting with advisors or business mentors, and evaluate their progress.

  • Track and document participant progress, including conducting pre and post participant surveys and monthly check-ins with participants.
  • Coordinate linkage to direct services with program consultants, service providers, and partner organizations.
  • Primary point of contact for entrepreneurs in cohort.

 

Event Coordination
Coordinate all aspects of planning program-related events, including but not limited to: marketing, registration,
webinars and networking events, and focus groups.

  • Develop and manage an invite and RSVP system for Webinars and networking events.
  • Schedule and prep speakers, exhibitors, instructors and other participants.
  • Develop and conduct follow-up surveys targeted at event participants.
  • Identify and reserve equipment needed for event operations, including A/V, chairs, and tables.
  • Manage webinar software.
  • Assist the Senior Program Manager with event marketing strategy and outreach.
  • Operational oversight of event set-up and break-down.
  • Supervise event volunteers and/or temp staff.

 

Reports and Documentation
Maintain program digital files and support grant reporting and accounting.

  • Collect documents, receipts, and invoices required for monthly federal grant invoicing and reports.
  • Collate all key program documentation such as surveys, digital assets, photography, and participant and program partner narratives.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date case management and event participation records.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience.
  • A working knowledge of basic business and food retail operations, experience working with small-business owners, and/or past experience owning a small business.
  • Experience with executing communications and community outreach strategies.
  • Effective written and spoken communicator.
  • Experience managing multiple tasks and working with competing deadlines.
  • Can work independently
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Webinar platforms, and Google suite.

 

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Multilingual; particularly Spanish proficiency.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience working with Community Development Corporations.
  • Experience working with underserved, low-income communities with awareness and integrity.
  • Proficiency with Social Media platforms.
  • Experience conducting or assisting with surveys and assessments.

 

May perform related duties as assigned by management.
