Venice Arts seeks a photographer to lead our beginning photography workshop for ages 10-13. Venice Arts photography classes integrate documentary based storytelling into the curriculum along with a foundation in the fundamentals of photography. The Teaching Artist must commit to our entire academic year.


  • Must be a photographer, preferably with experience in documentary work or digital storytelling, multimedia a plus.
  • Prior experience teaching young people photography is required.


The Lead Artist for is responsible for:

  • Building lesson plans that support the learning goals identified by Venice Arts
  • Nurturing volunteer artists, who work as educators and mentors in the classroom
  • Managing the class, including identifying the need for equipment and supplies and communicating about behavioral, attendance, or other problems
  • Assuring a quality presentation of youth work for the spring culminating event and for features on the web. Must be available for 3-hours on Saturdays 9:30 – 12:30 pm.



  • The compensation for the full academic year ( fall and spring ) is $2960 for workshops taught over a 24–week period.

MISSION: Venice Arts mission is to ignite, expand, and transform the lives of Los Angeles’ low-income youth through photography and film education, and use our participatory storytelling practices to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities around the world.
