Mockingbird Analytics, Inc. is a b-corp consulting agency that works with non-profit and social good organizations to help them tell the story of their work through research, evaluation, and outcomes. We are offering a Grant Writing Specialist position with our company to a qualified individual who can participate in various client-based projects related to prospecting and grant applications.

Our clients are passionate about the causes they serve and we are looking for someone who is equally passionate about advancing social justice causes through storytelling for our clients. We work with a range of causes and organizations of all sizes and stages, so this position will be dynamic and require teaching our clients best practices as well as helping them successfully craft their applications. A strategic vision and adaptability to our client's needs will be keys to success in this position.

The Role

The Grant Writing Specialist will be responsible for researching, collecting data, and the writing of each proposal. To develop their proposals, the grant writer will familiarize themselves with a client organization's programs, goals, and financial needs. You will be responsible for conducting ongoing prospect research to identify, cultivate and solicit new grants–always looking out for the best interests of our clients. We want to create the ideal work environment for all of our employees, so this position can be performed remotely with flexibility for in- person meetings with clients as needed and regular meetings with Mockingbird Staff. This specialist should be prepared to work in a small business on a part-time schedule, working with several clients per month and submitting at least one grant per week.


  • Work with our clients step-by-step to submit grant proposals.
  • Identify the most appropriate grants for our clients and help them apply as soon as new opportunities become available.
  • Write and submit high-quality grant proposals and supporting documents, ensuring timely submission of all required materials
  • Supervising interns who will help develop proposals.
  • Uses research tools to identify grant opportunities for our clients.
  • Continuously improve through feedback


  • Bachelor's degree in communications, English, professional writing or a similar major.
  • Outstanding grammar and research skills are essential.
  • More than 2 years of related experience and a proven track record in grant writing and program development.
  • Certificates in grant writing that complement a bachelor's degree or graduate programs in nonprofit management are also accepted, but not required.

Job Type: Part-Time, In-House Grant Writer
Compensation: Begins at $30/hour
Hours: 10 hours per week
Work Location: Must be local to Los Angeles, CA area with on-site and remote availability.
