Description

Venice Arts seeks a Filmmaker to lead our intermediate narrative filmmaking workshop Direct This! for ages 10-13. Venice Arts’ Direct This class integrates storytelling into the curriculum along with a foundation of filmmaking techniques. The Teaching Artist must commit to our entire academic year, September 14, 2019–May 2. No classes for the month of January.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this workshop is a filmmaker and educator with experience teaching filmmaking to youth, and honoring them as young artists/creators, is required. An understanding of Visual and Performing Art Standards is a strong plus, as is experience developing arts education lesson plans. Must be able to both lead and work as a member of a teaching team.

The Filmmaking Teaching Artist is responsible for:

  • Building lesson plans that support the learning goals identified by Venice Arts
  • Nurturing volunteer artists, who work as educators and mentors in the classroom
  • Managing the class, including identifying the need for equipment and supplies and communicating about behavioral, attendance, or other problems
  • Assuring a quality presentation of youth work for the spring culminating event and for features on the web.
  • Be available Tuesdays 3:30-6:30pm

Compensation

Instructors are paid a fixed rate of $2960 for workshops taught over a 24–week period.

Mission: Venice Arts mission is to ignite, expand, and transform the lives of Los Angeles’ low-income youth through photography and film education, and use our participatory storytelling practices to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities around the world.
