ABOUT ARTS FOR LA
Arts for LA (AFLA) is a voice for the arts in Greater Los Angeles that informs, engages, and mobilizes individuals and organizations to advocate for access to the arts across all communities; arts education for every student; robust investment in the arts; and inclusion of diverse and underrepresented voices. Arts for LA invests in leadership development, growing networks of civically engaged advocates; building deep relationships with elected officials; and working in partnership across sectors to make LA a vibrant, prosperous, creative, and healthy society.
AFLA seeks a Director of Public Policy & Advocacy to lead the overall strategy and positioning on arts and culture issues. This position will be responsible for developing AFLA’s annual policy agenda and policy priorities that further organizational goals. He/she/they will lead government affairs strategy and help develop advocacy campaigns with an eye towards advancing AFLA policy agenda at the local level. He/she/they will also build critical relationships with stakeholders of AFLA to advance policy values and priorities pertaining to arts and culture. The ideal candidate has a strong background in policy and legislative advocacy, as well as demonstrated experience building productive relationships with key stakeholders. He/she/they will also have excellent analytical skills with an ability to think critically and write effectively. An understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion are critical to the success of this role, and candidates should be prepared to articulate how they will approach policy analysis and development with an equity lens. The position is an opportunity to serve as the resident policy expert for an influential public policy organization.
