The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a Coordinator, Community Science Program – LA 2050 for our Research & Collections department. This position will work closely with the Senior Community Science Manager to coordinate the implementation, evaluation, and reporting of the LA2050 grant. Specific responsibilities include overseeing all grant activities including creation and implementation of programs, working with partner organizations, administering program evaluations, documenting and tracking grant activities, and writing the final grant report at the Natural History Museum. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.    

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:  

  1. Oversees LA2050 logistics—schedules meetings, takes notes, creates timelines and deadlines, follows up on action items, and writes reports.  
  2. Works with CS office and other NHMLAC staff to develop and implement LA2050 programming, including program tools and materials.   
  3. Works with and supports local partner organizations to execute LA2050 programs throughout Los Angeles  
  4. Produces outreach materials associated with the CS office programs related to LA2050  
  5. Manages web pages, social media and blog posts related to the LA2050  
  6. Tracks data/metrics of the LA2050 grant  
  7. Oversees evaluation efforts for the LA2050  
  8. Provides educational outreach through programs, classes, field trips, guest writing on the program’s blog and other such activities.  
  9. Provides support in coordinating and overseeing work study students and interns as related to LA2050 work. Assigns and reviews work to ensure alignment with program objectives.   
  10. Work with, and supervise volunteers as necessary  
  11. Purchasing supplies and working with vendors to obtain LA2050 program supplies  
  12. Other duties as assigned by supervisor  


This position has the following requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental/outdoor education or museum related field (biology, environmental studies, ecology, botany, geology, museum studies, science education, etc). Master’s degree is preferred but not required.   
  • 2-3 years of experience conducting community science and field study projects.  
  • 2-3 years of experience developing and facilitating educational programs.  
  • 1-2 years experience in project management.  
  • Must be able to work a Tuesday to Saturday schedule, including flexibility to work some evenings, holidays, and/or Sundays/Mondays.  
  • Experience engaging audiences through social media.  
  • Experience managing volunteers (adult and teen).  
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred but not required.  
  • A valid California Driver License and a Personal Automobile Liability Insurance.
