Alliance is now one of the largest and more successful public charter school networks in the nation, operating 25 high-performing middle and high schools serving 13,000 scholars in Los Angeles’ more educationally underserved communities. In our 14th school year, Alliance has a proven record of success: though our scholars come to Alliance on average four grade-levels behind in reading, 95% of Alliance graduates have been accepted to college—including 73% to a four-year university in 2018. We strive to truly change the life trajectories of our scholars and communities, with a goal of 75% of Alliance graduates completing a four-year college degree. Reporting to the Vice President, Marketing and Communications, the Manager, Content Strategy plays an important role in the content generation for Alliance’s internal and external communications and marketing efforts. As a member of the Advancement Team, the position writes and edits a variety of content, including but not limited to: press releases, OP-EDs, blog posts, feature stories, email marketing, ads, brochures, white papers, speeches, and reports, as well as video scripts and web copy. In addition, the Manager, Content Strategy is responsible for ensuring that Alliance’s Messaging Framework is respected in all collateral and for maintaining an Alliance Glossary of Terms and Editorial Guidelines. The Manager, Content Strategy is a grammar guru, AP Styleguide expert, and can tailor writing to a plethora of audiences.


  • Write inspiring, pithy content tailored to various audiences
  • Based on the purpose of content, recommend best vehicle, such as: infographics, video, presentation


  • Take a leading role in the creation of content tailored to a variety of media and audiences: parents, scholars, educators, press, donors
  • Interview stakeholders to create compelling content, including complex, multi-page reports
  • Recommend story ideas based on scholar and school accomplishments
  • Maintain Glossary of Terms that reflect Alliance’s messaging framework
  • Develop Editorial Guidelines and ensure they are implemented across the organization


Team Collaboration & Planning

  • Coordinate and plan writing projects with other members of the Advancement Team as well as other team members from across the organization
  • Create and maintain an Editorial Calendar that takes into account major milestone events and key organizational priorities
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • A grammar and AP Styleguide Guru
  • Experience with managing an Editorial Calendar
  • Strong organizational skills, including ability to manage and multi-task many projects
  • Entrepreneurial spirit able to thrive in a fast-paced and achievement-oriented environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-layered organization and build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including educators, school leaders, other school-based colleagues and home office staff
  • Commitment to Alliance’s core beliefs and educational philosophy
  • Knowledge of urban school environments and educational policies a plus
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to contribute to the success of a dynamic team committed to a new future for urban education
  • Spanish fluency a plus



  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications, public relations, writing, or journalism and at least three (3) years of professional content creation experience
  • Portfolio that features a variety samples written for different audiences
  • Travel throughout Los Angeles is required; valid driver’s license and automobile available for daily use


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS In alignment with our commitment to equity for our scholars, Alliance is committed to equity and transparency for our team and offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience and education, as well as an employer-sponsored 403b plan annual contribution equal to 5% of regular earnings, and a comprehensive group health benefits package, including medical, dental and vision. This position is exempt. The compensation range for this position is $67,000 - $93,000.
