Day One is hiring for three temporary paid summer interns for our Pedestrian Safety Campaign. Internships are available for both undergraduate, graduate students, and post-graduate students. Start date will be July 29th through September 13th. This will be a part-time position with a maximum of 20 hours a week.

Day One Background: 

Day One is a community-based nonprofit organization with a 30 year history of providing effective, high quality public policy, health promotion, coalition building, community organizing alcohol, tobacco, drug prevention services, and youth leadership development. Day One has become a leader in youth advocacy and community health in the San Gabriel Valley by providing safety education, outreach services, and successfully engaging with diverse and multilingual communities in the San Gabriel Valley. Day One will be launching their Pedestrian Safety Campaign in the City of Pasadena to inform and educate Pasadena motorists about the need for pedestrian safety and awareness.

Internship Description:

As an outreach intern, you will learn about how to conduct community engagement on a local level. Your primary role is to assist the active transportation coordinators in conducting community outreach to distribute pedestrian safety materials to business districts with high vehicle use, including but not limited to gas stations, car washes, parking valets, parking garages, community events, and the Pasadena Neighborhood Associations. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in procuring equipment, brochures, and posters.

  • Serve and educate attendees at pop up events and high school outreach classes.

  • Collaborate with local businesses.

  • Conduct pedestrian and bicycle safety presentations at Pasadena High Schools, Pasadena City College, and local community centers. 

 

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Background in volunteering.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.

  • Ability to enter data.

  • Proficiency in word, excel, and powerpoint.

  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
