America Needs You (ANY) fights for economic mobility for ambitious, first-generation college students by providing transformative mentorship and intensive career development. We are in search of an ambitious and organized Program Coordinator to assist with the implementation of our program in Los Angeles, California.

This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who wishes to make a real difference in the lives of first- generation college student while developing their skills in facilitation, case management, and project management, as well as gaining access to a large and high-powered professional network.

This Role Is

  • Supporting students and volunteers

  • Planning and facilitating workshops

  • Building relationships

  • Tracking and analyzing data

 

As the Program Coordinator, you will help deliver 18 professional development workshops over the course of three years to a cohort of 50 Scholars (ambitious, first-generation college students) and their Mentor Coaches (accomplished young professionals). In addition to facilitating workshops, you will be the primary point of contact for Scholars, including counseling them through personal, academic, and professional challenges, and helping them to secure internships. You will also support Mentor Coaches through the mentoring relationship and leverage their strengths to maximize program effectiveness. As ANY-California is our newest site, you as the Program Coordinator are energized by the ambiguity and opportunity of joining a small, collaborative team and working in a startup environment.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Scholar and Mentor Coach Support
    •  Professional development: building and professional relationships, exploring careers, and sourcing, securing and succeeding in STEM and business internships
    • Personal development: confidence-building, interpersonal coaching and crisis managemento Academic development: time management skills and leveraging on-campus resources
  • Workshop Planning and Delivery
    • Curriculum tailoring and workshop preparation
    • Logistics, including materials, food, set-up and registrationo Deliveringcontentandfacilitatinggroupdiscussions
  • Data Entry and Analysis
    • Tracking program standing, attendance, and retention
    • Supporting relationship development
  •  Recruitment & Marketing
    • Creating and managing the online application system for Mentor Coaches
    • Planning recruitment sessions and interview days
    • Support with evaluating and selecting Scholar and Mentor Coach applicants
    • Ensuring the website, social media accounts and collateral materials are current and engaging
  • Additional projects and duties as determined by the local and national program teams

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, results-driven environment

  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong listening and mediation skills, with a high level of empathy

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Experience working with adolescents or college students

  • Discretion in handling sensitive personal information

  • Desire for continuous improvement and openness to feedback

  • Microsoft Office proficiency

  • Strong commitment to America Needs You’s mission and vision

  • Bachelor’s Degree

 

Preferred

  • Experience providing case management or academic/career/financial aid advisement to college students

  • Experience planning and executing events

  • Experience facilitating, teaching or presenting before large groups

  • Knowledge of issues facing first-generation college students

 

As our workshops are held on Saturdays, this position will require the ability to work approximately 10 Saturdays per year, as well as other occasional evenings and weekends. Employees may take time off to compensate for time worked outside regular business hours.
