The following provides a general description of duties and a more specific description of requirements for the Graphic Artist. Please note that the summary of responsibilities and required abilities identified below are not to be construed as an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities, or requirements.
The Graphic Artist position will develop graphic design strategies to better engage the public and increase knowledge about the significantly expanded, no-cost substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and preventive services benefit package available for Medi-Cal and My Health LA eligible beneficiaries. This position will be responsible to review and apply collected feedback and other information to visually persuade the public and community-based providers to see DPH and SAPC as the lead agency for SUD services in Los Angeles County. Creating clearly branded materials for outreach events, both in the community and for network provider sites, will advance the ability to achieve this objective.
The duties of the Graphic Artist include, but are not limited to:
Create graphics, layouts and design for SUD specialty managed care and prevention communication materials (i.e., branding elements, logos, color palettes, design families “look-and-feel”, font and type-face development, and style guidelines for internal and external program communications);
Develop consistent graphics for printed beneficiary and provider materials (i.e., layouts of reports, booklets, pamphlets, postcards, etc.);
Produce and establish constant brand recognition with the community, potential providers, and other stakeholders;
Provide creative support in integrating brand guidelines for both treatment and prevention efforts;
Provide graphic support for the Division, including e-newsletters, reports, collateral, promotional items, research briefs, visual presentations and multimedia projects;
Provide graphic support and deliver creative expertise to assist in the production of website publications, including videos, presentations, documents, surveys, and other online communications; and
Other duties as assigned.
Three (3) years of commercial art experience in the preparation and production of manual and graphic art presentations;
One year of commercial art experience in the preparation and production of manual and graphic art presentations AND (2) year of training in commercial art including coursework in graphic art procedures, layout and lettering, artwork preparation, graphic design, illustration, spot illustration, advertising design, typography, commercial design, drawing logic and color theory; and
Expertise in the use of commonly used graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite - Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, etc.).
Computer literate and skilled in the use of both MAC and PC platforms
Experience implementing graphic design development in the public health, health or community service sector with the public in mind;
Computer proficient and skilled in the use of MS Windows-based programs, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web-based design software; and
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
