Beacon seeks a Strategy and Business Development Manager to join its team. S/he will play a key role in the firm’s proposal development process and its strategy development process as it applies to new client segments and Beacon’s product offerings. This position actively offers the opportunity for professional development and growth. It is ideal for candidates seeking to develop their own knowledge of the consulting space, both from a business strategy perspective and from a substantive perspective in terms of Beacon’s policy and economic data consulting work. of-the-box thinking. A more detailed description of the role and requirements is below.


  • Write, edit, proof, organize, and format proposals: Support the proposal development process via Wrike (project management system), including crafting proposal scopes of work from client concept notes, drafting and editing proposal content, coordinating the development of proposal assets in collaboration with the Research Team, Business Development Team, and Senior Management, and laying out proposals in external-facing templates; independently manage renewals
  • Review qualified RFPs and technical RFP requirements and facilitate and coordinate the response process: Collaborate with internal teams to develop strategy, key messaging, differentiators, and scope; manage bid registration library and facilitate opportunity monitoring process
  • Develop and implement appropriate proposal and bid follow up: Draft communications, PowerPoint slide decks, etc.; work with internal teams to ensure appropriate input and approval for follow up communication
  • Lead the continued development of the proposal library and institutionalization of the proposal development process in partnership with the Business Development Team and Senior Management
  • Develop additional creative and communication assets as needed including PowerPoint presentations for use in interviews, pitch materials, and both client-specific and product specific collateral


  • Facilitate and participate in strategy development for client segments and product offerings, both opportunistically and in conjunction with the firm’s longer-term sales cycle: Analyze opportunities via CRM (Salesforce) for prospective clients by sector, geography, product type, and client grouping and share findings
  • Initiate, operationalize, and iterate marketing campaigns in company’s e-marketing platform (Pardot): Analyze, monitor, and report out on results to Business Development Team and Senior Management, providing recommendations; work with Communications Team to develop tailored materials to assist in explaining key product features or articulating value proposition to key client groups
  • Increase firm’s use of report functions within its CRM (Salesforce) and its use of drip and other campaigns within its e-marketing platform (Pardot).
  • Perform background research, participate in client outreach, attend events in areas of interest and work


  • Manage specified administrative processes in support of business development and marketing efforts including new business processing functions via Wrike and operational template creation; help oversee and direct work of administrative staff


  • Proposal preparation and/or grant writing experience (2 years preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to write/craft value propositions and translate broad concepts from subject-matter experts into compelling narratives
  • Detail-oriented; comfortable editing, proofing, and formatting materials for external-facing audiences
  • Creative thinking and interest in business development strategy re. growing a consulting firm
  • Experience managing deliverables on rigorous deadline and ability to prioritize workload to respond to shifting demands and new business opportunities
  • Experience managing and strategically leveraging CRM and CRM-powered platforms (Salesforce and/or Pardot experience desirable)
  • Interest in Beacon Economics’ work, including public policy, data analysis, economic policy research and/or economic development
  • Interest in strategic process establishment and operational optimization, a plus

Compensation Salary commensurate with experience (Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000); competitive benefits including but not limited to health and dental/vision coverage.
