Under the supervision and direction of the Controller, the senior grant accountant is responsible for the overall financial coordination and day-today management of all externally funded grants, and contract funds including all applicable federal, state and private funded programs. The Senior Grant Accountant, in collaboration with the Controller, acts as primary financial liaison to multiple funding agencies. This position will be responsible for the submission of government and foundation financial information to direct funders. Additionally, they will lead the monitoring of daily financial performance of all post award grants and contracts to ensure compliance with policies and regulations. Monitoring and maintaining fiscal and budgetary controls for each grant or contract award. The Senior Grant Accountant will also supervise the Accounting Analyst(s), providing guidance and support to the financial sustainability of each award. The goal of the senior grant accountant is to be a resource of financial guidance and compliance for the grant accountants and accounting analysts as well as being a strategic business partner with each program director.
- Perform grant-related post award functions including: budget and expense analysis, periodic invoicing, financial reporting, labor distribution changes and budget modifications.
- Develop financial forecasts, spending projections, and overviews designed to monitor expenditures and revenues for program sustainability on a monthly basis.
- Analyze and explain budget variances and propose solution based recommendations to program directors based on grant/contract requirements.
- Support program with time and effort reporting, ensuring it is complete, accurate, and in compliance budget allocations and with applicable regulations.
- Directly supervise the Accounting Analyst(s) associated with corresponding awards.
- Lead account reviews and reconciliations for AR, Expense, and Accruals as part of the monthly closing activities.
- Review and Post journal adjustments, AR and AP entries to the general ledger.
- Ensure that match and leverage is captured and reported properly in compliance with appropriate regulations.
- Lead on coordinating the fiscal review and monitoring of YPI subcontracts while, standardizing audit and reporting process.
- Coordinate and lead external fiscal reviews and audits with YPI’s grant funders.
- Lead the grant close-out process, including department budget realignment, sustainability and all grant related closing processes.
- Strategize with program and fiscal staff on how to streamline internal processes and to help reduce fiscal related audit findings.
- Monitor and review Accounts Receivables for the organization, including the follow up and write offs of uncollected debts.
- Review and correct various month end closing journal entries, such as grants receivable/revenues for accuracy.
- Lead the annual review and update fiscal related policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP, Uniform Guidance, and other grant related regulations.
- Maintain positive relationship with both fiscal and program external monitors.
- Ad hoc reporting, analysis, and other duties as needed.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance required, extensive field experience may substitute degree.
- 3 plus years of accounting experience required.
- 2 years of non-profit accounting preferred.
- Experience in managing and maintaining financial expenditures for multiple projects and budgets with completing deadlines.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skill with strong attention to details.
- Knowledge of GAAP, business principles, and governmental regulations.
- Extensive knowledge in OMB and Uniform Guidance 2CFR200 regulations.
- Must be technologically savvy and comfortable using a paperless document system.
- Extensive knowledge of nonprofit accounting, cost principles, and allowable costs.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate financial reports effectively to a dynamic group of personalities.
- Team player, self-starter with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Strong leadership skills with the willingness to train others.

- Must have access to reliable transportation. Some travel between program sites may be required.
