WriteGirl (www.writegirl.org) is a creative writing and mentoring organization for underserved high school girls. Our mission is to help girls develop self-confidence and communication skills through writing relationships and workshops with women writers. Founded in 2001, WriteGirl is dedicated to using writing as a powerful force for positive social change. WriteGirl received national attention in 2021 when WriteGirl alum Amanda Gorman performed her poetry at the Biden-Harris Inauguration. About this job

Administrative Assistant needed for nonprofit organization, WriteGirl (www.writegirl.org). We are seeking full-time support for events and administrative activities.

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: $18.00 per hour

Benefits include: Medical, dental, basic life insurance, 403(b), FSA and additional voluntary benefits.

Roles & responsibilities

Duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to, coordination for events, phone and email communication, collaboration with volunteers, data entry, research, running errands, tracking inventory, transporting and setting up event materials, light manual labor such as lifting and moving boxes of books, and other tasks as directed. Duties include assisting at WriteGirl events, including WriteGirl / Bold Ink Writers workshops with teens through the county’s Dept. of Probation and other community sites. Most events and meetings are currently online, due to COVID, but will return to in-person when safe to do so. We’re a small team coordinating impactful programming for youth and we’re looking for a collaborative team member who can attend to the details while staying connected to our mission.


  • Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Strong business writing skills
  • Excellent phone and video conferencing skills
  • Proficient in computer skills (email, Google Drive, internet research, Zoom)
  • Proactiveness, strong attention to detail and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
  • Reliable car and insurance
  • Some previous administrative and/or event planning experience preferred
  • Strong interest in supporting inclusion, diversity, equity and access, which are the foundations of all of our programming and operations
  • Strong interest in supporting the creative programs we deliver through event and administrative tasks
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing needs and requirements
  • Must have availability for Saturday events, usually 1 - 2 Saturdays monthly. Must also have some weekday evening availability for events and meetings. While this position currently is largely a remote position, it will also include 2 days per week at our downtown LA office, with COVID safety protocols in place, as the only person in the office per day. Other hours are currently remote from home. When our in-person events resume, they will be held in Downtown LA, Pasadena, Glendale, and other locations around the greater Los Angeles area.
