About this job

TreePeople seeks an energetic and passionate Environmental Education and Outdoor Equity Coordinator to coordinate and lead environmental education programs, including nature trips and service learning projects. The individual will work closely with schools to engage students and teachers in environmental programs, assist with workshops, and participate in outreach and special events. Additionally, the role supports various internal teams and initiatives to promote outdoor equity and environmental education across communities.

Roles & responsibilities

- Coordinate and lead nature trips and service learning projects, including scheduling school visits, booking tours, keeping all relevant calendars, booking transportation, and catering for events.

- Contribute to consistent and accurate reporting (daily, weekly, monthly, as agreed), metrics tracking, and data collection for key Environmental Education and Outdoor Equity initiatives in collaboration with the department’s leadership team and TreePeople’s Strategy & Impact Manager.

- Collaborate with School Partnerships Associate Manager to recruit, engage, network, and support teachers and students to encourage them to participate in all middle school - Environmental Education and Outdoor Equity programs.

- Support content delivery for all nine teacher workshops.

- Support the completion of all teacher workshop recap reports.

- Participate in coordinator meetings, engaging with priority schools in high priority regions and supporting equitable distribution of field trips and service learning projects.

- Participate in occasional weekend outreach opportunities at educator conferences and community events.

- Assist in administering evaluation instruments and collecting assessment data relating to - -- Environmental Education and Outdoor Equity (MS) programs.

- Support TreePeople in the development and delivery of special projects, other programs and events.

- Represent TreePeople and the Environmental Education and Outdoor Equity team in the classroom, community, and beyond.

- Participate in Environmental Education and TreePeople All-Staff gatherings.

- Support TreePeople’s Nursery, Park Operations, Urban Forestry, and Mountain Forestry teams as needed.

- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Demonstrated experience working with High School-aged children, preferably in an outdoor education setting.

-Community-oriented individual with demonstrated proficiency in mobilizing people to action.

- Understanding of ecological systems and awareness of current environmental issues, including impacts of urban development and green solutions is strongly desired.

- Experience in project management.

- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking.

- Solid presentation skills, including experience presenting at workshops, community and agency meetings.

- Highly organized, detailed oriented, strong work ethic, friendly, smart, adaptable, proactive and a quick learner with great time-management skills.

- Ability to visit school sites across the Greater Los Angeles Area on a regular basis. Valid CA -- Driver’s License, proof of insurance and reliable transportation a must.

- Bilingual (Spanish) verbal and written strongly preferred.

- Experience, with intermediate to expert knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suites tools and applications.

- Cultural sensitivity, particularly for the underserved communities of South Los Angeles.

- Competency in social and environmental equity and inclusion.

- Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required.

- While performing the duties of this job, this position requires the ability to drive and lift 15 pounds.
