The Legal Counsel will serve as a part-time consultant to the Foundation, available to provide services on an as-needed basis. It is anticipated that the heaviest demand for Legal Counsel support will be in the run-up to quarterly board meetings, and drafting and reviewing of grantmaking documents based on board decision-making. This position reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for implementing the strategies and decisions of the Board.

Roles & responsibilities

• Oversee legal, governance, and regulatory compliance issues

• Preparation/review of grant agreements, contracts, lease, insurance, and legal documents

• Review and negotiate legal issues associated with private investments involving partnerships and other arrangements

• Record updates to bylaws/operating procedures

• Employment issues oversight

Qualifications

• Philanthropic/nonprofit experience

• Based in Los Angeles

• Strong analytical ability including the ability to summarize complex issues clearly and concisely and to develop and convey cogent reasoning and recommendations

• Interest in understanding the culture and history of the Foundation in order to build a long-term relationship
