SALARY: $95,000 – $115,000

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Reporting to the SVP, Community Engagement, the VP of Government Affairs and Strategic Initiatives will lead and oversee the development and execution of The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles’ government affairs strategic initiatives. Focusing on issues related to antisemitism, government relations, domestic policy, as well as social and economic justice, this role will help lead JFED LA’s public affairs agenda. Working alongside the Community Engagement senior management team, the VP of Government Affairs and Strategic Initiative will oversee the civic engagement, volunteerism, and civic leadership programs, which support the goals, vision, and mission of the Federation.

Roles & responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

• Work closely with the Senior Vice President, Community Engagement (CE), to develop and implement and advise on priorities, strategies, and impact goals, which align with Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles’ goals and objectives.

• Lead, motivate and manage staff, providing input on personnel decisions and assuring expectations and deadlines are met.

• Supervise the planning and execution of programmatic initiatives (civic and volunteerism) which furthers our work in the government affairs space, identifying best practices and effective strategies for maximum impact.

• Represent the interests of the Jewish community within the community-at-large, through coalition building and cooperative efforts with civic, academic, and political leadership.

• Address priority issues in a variety of ways, including but not limited to, educational programming, political advocacy, volunteerism, social justice projects and public position papers.

• Work closely with Community Engagement leadership team to ensure strong communication across CE.

• Coordinate, facilitate meetings and collaborate with key external stakeholders to advance legislative and policy expertise on approaches.

• Build and maintain relationships with government officials and other relevant stakeholders.

• Manage the budget and resources allocated to Government Affairs and Strategic Initiatives to ensure efficient and effective use of resources.

• Maintain knowledge and professional expertise on relevant policy issues to support The Jewish Federation of Greater LA’s advocacy efforts.

• Represent and deliver presentations to external audiences including donors, community groups, and elected officials as needed.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

• Be available to supervisor for additional assignments, as required, including assisting with the Campaign.

• Some travel is required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR POSITION

• Substantive work experience (7+ years) in government affairs, including an understanding of policy-making processes in government and political dynamics.

• Experience working with coalitions.

• Excellent written, verbal and analytical skills

• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving. Must be able to move multiple projects forward simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

• Basic understanding of the structure of the Jewish community and the cultural, social and religious tradition and history of the Jewish people.

• A hybrid work model will be implemented for certain positions during transition back to worksite(s). This position must report to worksite on non-remote workdays, as determined by the Federation.
