Our House of Do Good program provides transitional housing for up to 24 months to survivors of domestic and family violence and their children, helping them heal, rebuild, and work toward long-term stability and independence.

The Shelter Advocate is a key front-line team member at the House of Do Good. This role ensures a safe, supportive, and stable living environment for residents by actively monitoring the shelter, supporting daily operations, modeling respect and care, and encouraging a shared commitment to community guidelines. Shelter Advocates help foster a healing space by assisting with administrative tasks, addressing resident needs, and working closely with the Program Manager to support the well-being of all families in the program.
Roles & responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for survivors seeking services, ensuring compassionate, trauma-informed, and client-centered support.
- Conduct intake assessments to identify client needs, eligibility, and appropriate referrals for housing, counseling, and supportive services.
- Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and advocacy to survivors of domestic violence and their children.
- Assist clients in navigating housing options, benefits, and community resources, including liaising with landlords and partner agencies.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records in line with organizational standards.
- Manage front desk operations including answering phones, greeting visitors, and handling inquiries with professionalism and care.
- Facilitate client orientations and provide information on rights, safety planning, and available services.
- Collaborate with program staff, community partners, and service providers to ensure wraparound support for clients.
- Observe, document, and report any issues, incidents, or safety concerns according to policy.
- Complete all required documentation and reporting in a timely and accurate manner.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development, including trauma-informed practices.
- Uphold organizational values of respect, empowerment, and cultural humility in all interactions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field preferred – OR – equivalent professional experience in shelter, case support, or residential services will be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Experience supporting individuals or families impacted by domestic violence, homelessness, or trauma is highly desirable.
- Experience working in shelter or transitional housing settings is a plus.
