The Civics Center is dedicated to building the foundations of youth civic engagement and voter participation in high schools through education, organizing, and advocacy. We support student-led, peer-to-peer voter registration and pre-registration efforts in high school communities. This is a part-time position at 10-19 hours per week, but it may develop into a full-time position in the future.

The Special Assistant to the Executive Director and Project Assistant (Special Assistant) will play a critical role in expanding TCC’s capacity to achieve our programmatic and development goals. This role has three related parts. A full description of the job can be found at

Roles & responsibilities

* Communications

The Civics Center communicates with many different audiences across many different channels. Audiences include students, educators, policy makers, volunteers and donors. Platforms include email, text, slide decks for meetings, and social media. Working with our communications and program teams, and under the direction of the Executive Director, the Special Assistant will take a leading role in coordinating these communications, and in drafting and creating engaging tactics and strategies to reach our audiences.

* Development

The Civics Center is embarking on a significant expansion of its fundraising activities in order to support the strategic expansion of its programmatic work.

The Special Assistant will assist the Executive Director in coordinating TCC’s development efforts including coordinating TCC’s grants programs, from the application process to reporting and engagement with funders and assisting the Executive Director in outreach and management of major donor relationships and development events.

* Administration

The Special Assistant will also assist the Executive Director and program staff with all aspects of administration as needed with a focus on serving as a key face of the organization with outside advisors and collaborators. Assistance will include research, scheduling, organizing team meetings and coordinating meetings and calls with outside contacts, maintaining and updating key documents and resources as needed, serving as a liaison to TCC’s advisory board, fiscal sponsor, and other key organizations and leaders, creating initial drafts of correspondence and other written materials, and assisting with the creation of presentation materials and reports.


- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including great interpersonal skills

- Organization and attention to detail, creativity, and judgment

- Ability to work in or to quickly learn Google Suite, Asana, and a variety of other software applications pertinent to fulfilling the requirements of the position

- Prior experience working directly with youth, campaigns, and election-related issues

- Cultural competence to work with diverse groups
