About the Position: The position is a full-time (40 hours per week) position at Thai CDC. The
Staff Attorney provides counsel, advice, and representation to Thai CDC clients. The Staff
Attorney is responsible for providing services to clients and community members with legal
issues in person and remotely. Duties also include community outreach, client intakes, and
maintain legal knowledge and skills in relevant areas of law. The Staff Attorney is expected to
maintain their own caseload and assist in other areas as necessary. It is required that the staff
attorney be bilingual in English and Spanish or Mandarin.
Roles & responsibilities
- Provides comprehensive legal assistance to victims of human trafficking. This assistance
includes, but is not limited to performing screening interviews, providing legal
consultation regarding immigration matters to victims of trafficking, providing legal
assistance in immigration matters for victims of trafficking, providing appropriate
referral; etc.
- Provides legal assistance to community members in other areas of law as deemed
appropriate and necessary by the Staff Attorney, Directing Attorney and Program
Director.
- Provides assistance to community members as deemed appropriate by Directing
Attorney, Program Director, and Executive Director. This includes, but is not limited to
answering general questions; providing general information, both legal and non-legal, for
the community, providing appropriate referrals to community partners, etc.
- Performs related duties as deemed necessary by Directing Attorney, Program Director,
and/or Executive Director, including, but not limited to conducting outreach, legal
screenings, and intake in the community; creating outreach materials for the Thai
Community Development Center; attending meetings and resource fairs with other
agencies; etc.
- Performs office duties as deemed necessary by Directing Attorney, Program Director,
and/or Executive Director, including, but not limited to manning phone line and
answering phone calls; attending staff meeting; etc.
Qualifications
- Be a member in good standing with the California State Bar. (Individuals awaiting
California Bar Exam results are eligible to apply.)
- Preferred area of legal expertise: Immigration Law.
- Bilingual ability in Spanish or Mandarin.
- At least 1 year of related work experience preferred.
- Able to work independently and as a team member.
