Students Run LA (SRLA) is looking for a qualified Community Outreach and Alumni Engagement VISTA to join our team full-time for a full year, paid volunteer position. Each year, SRLA inspires 3,200 students to train for and complete the Los Angeles Marathon.

This paid volunteer (Americorps VISTA) opportunity would focus on building relationships with the LA running community, SRLA Alumni, and local neighborhood councils in order to increase event participation, donations, and volunteer participation.

The VISTA should be prepared to work on a team as well as independently to manage all aspects of their assigned role. The volunteer will finish their year of volunteerism having gained broad experience in various aspects of community building, alumni relations, and event promotion.

This volunteer opportunity is flexible/hybrid and involves some work in the SRLA Office in Tarzana, remote work, and weekend travel to events across greater Los Angeles. Start date: August 29th, 2022.

Roles & responsibilities

- Research and participate in community events (such as races and meet-ups) in the local community (often including weekend work).

- Manage communications in-person, on social media, and through email

- Prepare promotional materials for volunteer opportunities and events

- Research and collaborate with local businesses to promote SRLA events

- Recruit and organize a team of SRLA volunteers and alumni to attend community events

- Work closely with SRLA Alumni to organize and host meet-ups

- Brainstorm, plan, and schedule volunteer opportunities and activities for SRLA Alumni

- Collaborate with SRLA Alumni to identify areas for enhancing Alumni engagement

- Participate in local neighborhood council meetings

- Prepare grants for local neighborhood councils

- Communicate with SRLA staff, board, members, and volunteers to investigate potential connections with local neighborhood councils

Qualifications

- Must be at least 18 years old or older

- Must be a US Citizen, Permanent Resident, or DACA Recipient

- Must be available to work 35 - 40 hours per week

- Must be available for mandatory Saturday and Sunday events

- Must have a valid drivers license and personal vehicle to transport materials to and from events

- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25lbs

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Works well in a team

- Self-motivated, independent worker

- Great with project management

- Experience in event promotion is a plus

- Experience in fundraising is a plus

- Experience with Constant Contact/mass emailers is a plus

- Fluency in Spanish is a plus

- SRLA Alumni is a plus

- A background check is required
