The Partnership is a non-profit, in-district partner to LA Unified, not a charter network. As an independent nonprofit organization, the Partnership serves 13,550 students across 20 LA Unified schools in Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts. The Partnership works within the LA Unified School District context, which includes honoring all collective bargaining agreements for its teachers and school staff.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Partnership is hiring a new Manager of Communications. This new position will report to the Vice President (VP) of Communications, and will be a key player in both the Communications and Policy & Advocacy Teams. The Manager of Communications will work in partnership with team members to advance campaign goals through strategic communications, including publications, events, and social media. The Manager of Communications will also coordinate projects with the larger Communications Team, and support content development and communications strategies for Partnership schools and stakeholders. In addition, the Manager of Communications will help further our community engagement priorities by building relationships with school communities and supporting their communications strategies. Because this role supports multiple teams and initiatives, the ideal candidate will bring experience in communications, a passion for uplifting the voices and stories of our communities, and comfort managing multiple priorities. This is a full-time, year-round position.

Roles & responsibilities

Communication Work (40%)

Support the Policy & Advocacy Team to move campaign goals forward through narrative change and strategic communication plans

Draft high-quality communications for diverse audiences, including the media, school communities, partners, funders, and other stakeholders

Support disseminating policy and advocacy materials through various methods, including traditional media, social media, events, and blogs

Coordinate logistics for webinars and in-person convenings in partnership with team members across the organization

Support the creation of graphics for our policy and system change work, ensuring brand alignment and quality of design

Communications Team Support (30%)

Support the communications team with coordinating video projects, including identifying and scheduling interviews, working with videographers, release coordination, and editing

Develop and edit mobile videos for Instagram and other social media platforms

Support 20 Partnership schools’ social media contacts to ensure high quality content is being shared across all schools

In partnership with other members of the Communications Team, co-lead the expansion and maintenance of Partnership social media channels through coordinated social media strategy and contributing content regularly

Curate, update, and maintain media distribution lists

Community Relations (30%)

Support the development of impactful communication strategies and best practices for internal and external stakeholders the Partnership’s mission

Build relationships in school communities to inform and support a broader community relations strategy through a communications lens

With the VP of Communications, support the execution of community relations events and campaigns

With Educator Engagement team members, develop and lead a strategy for educator-specific communications and events, including regular newsletters and other touchpoints

Qualifications

At least 3 years professional communications experience with increasing responsibility, independence, and results

Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills in multiple areas, including news, social media, press releases, and creative writing

A combination of creative and strategic thinking with a standard for high-quality execution

Ability to prioritize and work under multiple deadlines

Strong team player and active collaborator

Strong project management skills, effectively managing many moving pieces at once

Proficient in Microsoft, Google Drive, Outlook, Canva, Constant Contact, Hootsuite or Sprout Social, Meltwater, Adobe Creative Suite

The ability to travel between school sites

Spanish language fluency (spoken and written), preferred

Working understanding of K-12 public education sector, preferred
